Charles Schumer hates free speech

I was checking the overnight stuff in my RSS feed when I saw something from Hot Air. It was a post from one of their guest contributors on the Democrats latest assault on the 1^st Amendment.

The post, by Rob Bluey, is titled “Schumer calls for “limits on First Amendment rights” during Senate debate” and has a video of the Senior Senator from the state of New York calling for the repeal of the First Amendment ((First Amendment to the United States Constitution)).

Before I get started on hammering this moron, a little background. Back in early 2010, a non-profit corporation named Citizens United wanted to air a film critical of Hillary Clinton as well as advertise the film during television broadcasts. This was an apparent violation of the McCain-Feingold ((Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act)) act, better known as the incumbent protection act passed into law in 2002. This law was supposed to address two issues.

The first was the increased role of soft money in campaign financing, by prohibiting national political party committees from raising or spending any funds not subject to federal limits, even for state and local races or issue discussion.

The second was the proliferation of issue advocacy ads, by defining as “electioneering communications” broadcast ads that name a federal candidate within 30 days of a primary or caucus or 60 days of a general election, and prohibiting any such ad paid for by a corporation (including non-profit issue organizations such as Right to Life or the Environmental Defense Fund) or paid for by an unincorporated entity using any corporate or union general treasury funds. The decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission overturns this provision, but not the ban on foreign corporations or foreign nationals in decisions regarding political spending.

Citizens United was told that they couldn’t run the film or pay for any advertising. Since most of these small groups were either attacking Liberal Democrats or RINO Republicans, the act was meant to be used to protect them. The Supreme Court ruled this a violation of the First Amendment and struck down most of the law.

The liberals went ballistic. The first thing that happened was the 2010 shellacking of the Democrats. They were blown out of the house of Representatives, lost their filibuster proof majority in the Senate and suffered massive losses at the state and local levels. Liberals, being Liberals, the blamed they losses on the “Evil Conservative, Right Wing Corporate Money Machines” and decided they were going to “Do Something” about it. (It never occured to them that people were sick of their policies and the ruination of America)

What they came up with was the Disclose Act. The “goal” of this act was to reverse the Citizens United decision. There was one small problem with it. It was blatantly unconstitutional and would be overturned in the courts. (Of course this was prior to the Great Back Stabbing of 2012 by the coward known as Chief Justice Roberts)

Many people started digging into the Disclose Act and weren’t to thrilled with what they saw. (Except Progressives, Liberals and Statists of course. They loved it) Here’s what Debra Saunders of the San Francisco Chronicle said:

Washington Democrats are pushing the DISCLOSE Act again. “DISCLOSE” stands for “Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections.” The American Civil Liberties Union and the National Right to Life Committee oppose this bill because they fear it would chill free speech. As far as the anti-abortion group is concerned, “DISCLOSE” stands for “Deterring Independent Speech about Congress except by Labor Organizations and Selected Elites.”

When you have the Right to Life and the ACLU on the same side of a bill in congress, then you know there’s something really wrong with it. This brings us to the subject of this post, one Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY). Schumer’s contempt for the constitution, free speech, gun ownership and freedom are well known. However, he really topped himself during the debate on the Disclose Act last night ((July 17^th, 2012)). Here is the transcript, cutesy of Hot Air:

I believe there ought to be limits because the First Amendment is not absolute. No amendment is absolute. You can’t scream ‘fire’ falsely in a crowded theater. We have libel laws. We have anti-pornography laws. All of those are limits on the First Amendment. Well, what could be more important than the wellspring of our democracy? And certain limits on First Amendment rights that if left unfettered, destroy the equality — any semblance of equality in our democracy — of course would be allowed by the Constitution. And the new theorists on the Supreme Court who don’t believe that, I am not sure where their motivation comes from, but they are just so wrong. They are just so wrong.

What UpChuck Schumer blurted out was the primary thought process of modern Liberal Democrats. They are not liberals in the traditional meaning of the word and they sure as Hell don’t believe in democracy. Here is the YouTube video of Schumer’s remarks:

Pathetic, isn’t he? Now some would say that Schumer is a Nazi. No, he isn’t. Schumer is Jewish. Jews and Nazi’s go together like Nitroglycerine and fire. No, Schumer is no Nazi. What he, besides a disgrace to that fine and ancient religion, is a Statist ((Statism)) with Fascistic ((Fascism)) tendencies. He believes in the power of the State over the rights of the individual, which is diametrically opposed to what the Founders ((Founding Fathers of the United States)) believed. He also believes in One Party Rule rather than the two party system we have. (I won’t go into the arguments about the minor parties that exist. Under Schumer, they will be suppressed in any case)

Schumer is an utter disgrace and needs to be removed from office. He is in violation of his Oath of Office ((Oath sworn by U.S. Senator)) as a member of the United States Senate. He has always held the average citizen in utter contempt and would prefer to do away with the election system. He was very upset when his protege, Anthony “Oscar Meyer” Wiener was forced to resign do to his perversions. Schumer tends to think that if you are a member of the Liberal Elite, you are above the law. If you are a Republican, or just someone who thinks the laws and Constitution apply to everyone as the Founders intended, then you are evil and need to be suppressed. The remarks he made last night are just the latest in a long line of remarks showing his contempt for the American Way.

Schumer will never be voted out of office and he is so shameless, there is nothing that would cause to resign. He would fight any attempt even if he were caught molesting an underage sheep in his Senate offices. All we can do is work to make him utterly irrelevant and if we can find anything, prosecute him. (He likes to initiate witch hunts, maybe he should be on the receiving end of one for a change)
