That from this day forth, All new mothers will no longer be permitted to use Baby Formula to feed their babies! So Sayeth His Imperialistic Royal Nannyness, Emperor Michael Bloomberg the Last!
No, I’m not joking…much. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, once again showing why the second Amendment is needed has decided that all new mothers should breast feed their new babies. No, they will not have any choice in the matter, since His Nannyness, is All Knowledgeable and the peons and serfs are to stupid to run their own lives.
Here are some of the details from CBS News:
First he took on big servings of soda. Next on Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s agenda is infant formula.
Going into effect on September 3, New York City’s mayor will implement his voluntary Latch On NYC initiative in which infant formula will be kept locked away at hospitals to encourage breast-feeding for new mothers.
Now I won’t go into the benefits or detriments of breast feeding newborns. I don’t have children and I don’t have the plumbing to do the job if I did. However, this is a decision that should be made by the mothers, not some petty little tyrannical thug. However, never let it be said that Michael Bloomberg gave to figs about Freedom, Liberty and the pursuit of baby formula.
Here are a few more details from the New York Post:
The nanny state is going after moms.
Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed. Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.
And it isn’t just the baby formula that Bloomberg wants banned either.
Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.
And I will repeat. It isn’t any business of the city of New York or that midget with the oral fixation, Bloomberg. Not that he gives a damn of course.
While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.
“If they put pressure on me, I would get annoyed,” said Lynn Sidnam, a Staten Island mother of two formula-fed girls, ages 4 months and 9 years. “It’s for me to choose.”
I hate to tell you this, but according to His High and Mighty Nagginess, it isn’t. He knows what’s good for you and if you don’t like it, he will have you SHOT nagged incessantly.
Under Latch On NYC, new mothers who want formula won’t be denied it, but hospitals will keep infant formula in out-of-the-way secure storerooms or in locked boxes like those used to dispense and track medications.
With each bottle a mother requests and receives, she’ll also get a talking-to. Staffers will explain why she should offer the breast instead.
“It’s the patient’s choice,” said Allison Walsh, of Beth Israel Medical Center. “But it’s our job to educate them on the best option.”
And here is my answer to their nagging. It called an offer to put them on their own operating tables. Of course, the “I know what’s good for you so shut up and do what I tell you!” brigade is out in full force.
“New York City is definitely ahead of the curve,” said Eileen DiFrisco, of NYU Langone Medical Center, where the breast-feeding rate has surged from 39 to 68 percent under the program.
Sure it did. How much of that was due to the mothers NOT being able to get the baby formula they requested in the first place? Now, as I have said, I am no expert on this. I’m not even a talented amateur. I do know there are pro’s and cons to breast feeding and bottle feeding.
Breast-feeding in the first weeks gives a baby a critical healthy start, many medical experts say. It helps the digestive system develop and protects the baby with the mother’s immunities. Nursing also helps the mother recover from childbirth.
But not everyone is convinced.
“They make formula for a reason, and the FDA makes sure it’s safe,” said Roxanne Schmidt, whose 14-month-old twins were fed with formula from birth. “Locking it up is just wrong.
When Mrs. Webmaster went back to China last winter, she also took back with her a good 20 pounds of powdered baby formula. She did it for a friend of hers who had just had a baby. Apparently in China, formula is very expensive. I don’t know what the “State Policy” is in China, but I don’t think they go this far. However Mayor totalitarian nutjub has.
Congratulations New York. You voted for this scumbag…Three Times! You got exactly what you deserved.
