And the layoffs begin

Elections have meaning, and now we are going to see just what is going to happen in the next few years. Companies have begun sending out layoff notices and letting employees go.

What? How is this possible you say? It’s possible because businesses are seeing the writing on the wall. Massive new taxes and regulations that will choke the life out of what’s left of the economy. First, there is Boeing. They just announced major layoffs in their defense division. Here’s what CNBC has to say:

Boeing announced a major restructuring of its defense division on Wednesday that will cut 30 percent of management jobs from 2010 levels, close facilities in California and consolidate several business units to cut costs.

California just passed massive new taxes, and has been a very unfriendly environment for business for decades. Their budget is an outright disaster and the number of people taking from the taxpayers has reached parity and is now surpassing them. Corporations have been either abandoning California or at the very least, not expanding in that state for a good 10-15 years. The unemployment levels are some of the highest in the country.

The company told employees about the changes on Wednesday, in a memo obtained by Reuters and confirmed by Boeing.

I wonder how many of the soon to be unemployed voted for the Democrats? Well, you got what you deserved. For those who voted for the Republicans? Sorry to hear about you losing your job.

Boeing said the changes were not a response to the threat of additional, across-the-board U.S. budget cuts due to take effect on Jan. 2, or the outcome of U.S. elections, but represented another step in its continuing drive to “be more competitive while investing in technologies and people.”

Pull the other finger Boeing, it has a bell on it. They will never admit that the gutting of the defense budget on top of the massive tax hikes on the horizon are to blame, even if they really are.

Rival Lockheed Martin has reduced its management ranks by about 25 percent in recent years after announcing a voluntary buyout.

As I recall, Lockheed had planned to announce the cuts before the election, but threats from Obama forced them to hold back, in violation of the WARN act. But then, we know that Obama doesn’t care one whit for the law.

Also, a business owner in Las Vegas has also laid off a number of employees. Here are the details from CBS Las Vegas:

A Las Vegas business owner with 114 employees fired 22 workers today, apparently as a direct result of President Obama’s re-election.

“David” (he asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) told Host Kevin Wall on 100.5 KXNT that “elections have consequences” and that “at the end of the day, I need to survive.”

Considering the economic sledgehammer coming, he may not make it in any case.

“I’ve done my share of educating my employees. I never tell them which way to vote. I believe in the free system we have, I believe in the right to choose who they want to be president, but I did explain as a business owner that I have always put my employees first. I always made sure that when I went without a paycheck that [I] made sure they were paid. And I explained that I always put them first and unfortunately I’m at a point where I’m being forced to have to worry about me and my family now and a business that I built from just me to 114 employees.

“I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner.

Did these people listen? I can’t say, but consider the following.

“Well unfortunately, and most of my employees are Hispanic — I’m not gonna go into what kind of company I have, but I have mostly Hispanic employees — well unfortunately we know what happened and I can’t wait around anymore, I have to be proactive. I had to lay off 22 people today to make sure that my business is gonna thrive and I’m gonna be around for years to come. I have to build up that nest egg now for the taxes and regulations that are coming my way. Elections do have consequences, but so do choices. A choice you make every day has consequences and you know what, I’ve always put my employees first, but unfortunately today I have to put me and my family first, and you watch what’s gonna happen. I’m just one guy with 114 employees — well was 114 employees — watch what happens in the next six months. The Dow alone lost 314 points today. There’s a tsunami coming and if you didn’t think this election had consequences, just wait.”

We are heading for economic collapse in the next few years and the window to start fixing the problems closed some time ago. In the state I live in, there is a company that employs a number of people I used to work with. I’ve applied for positions there in the past. A few months ago I was talking to a recruiter about some of the places I had talked to, and mentioned this company.

The recruiter told me that he had put a number of people in there in the last year and all had called back within a month saying they couldn’t stand the environment and wanted out. A week or so ago I found out they were letting go 75% of their workforce including just about all the people I knew. I can’t say this was due to Obama, but no doubt the bad economic and regulatory environment didn’t help things.

In congress, Harry Reid is already saying he has a mandate to raise taxes. (He doesn’t) this crook. Like most liberals, has no clue what his policies will do and he doesn’t care. Obama wants to institute a carbon tax to “Fight Global Warming and/or Climate Change.” All that will do is complete the looting of the economy.

I suck at predictions, (See who I thought would win Tuesday), but I think we will see unemployment hit 10-12% within a year, and when Obamacare fully kicks in, 15-20% won’t be surprising. We will have negative growth in this country. Companies won’t expand and hire new people if all they do is send their profits in to Washington to be wasted on one boondoggle after another.

To all you Democrats who are going to lose your jobs, I hope you enjoy experiencing “Funemployment” especially when the bills come due and you don’t have any money left.
