Good day all. As you should know, Donald Trump gave a speech yesterday on what his foreign policy will be like when he becomes president. Many Neocons, Crony capitalists and others in the GOP(e) weren’t all that thrilled with his ideas.
To that group, you can add the Germans. It seems that the German foreign minister is most displeased with Trump’s plans for Europe and the world. Here are the details from Yahoo News:
Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Thursday criticized U.S. Republican front-runner Donald Trump for a speech in which he said it would be “America first” if he were elected president.
And what would Herr Steinmeier prefer? I would guess he would like a nice Germany first American foreign policy with a Trump administration basically letting the Europeans run things. Let’s refresh our memories on what Trump had to say about Europe.
Trump said on Wednesday that if elected, his foreign policy would leave European and Asian allies of the U.S. fending for themselves if they did not pay more for U.S. defense measures.
And the problem with this is what? The United States has bailed Europe out twice in the last 100 years, mostly due to the GERMANS acting up. Then we spent the next 50 years socking it to the American taxpayers to defend the Europeand from the Soviet Union. The Europeans, rather then spend the money to defend themselves, instead spent it on a massive welfare state. So what does Herr Steinmeier have to say?
“I can only hope that the election campaign in the USA does not lack the perception of reality,” Steinmeier said. “The world’s security architecture has changed and it is no longer based on two pillars alone. It cannot be conducted unilaterally,” he said, referring to Trump’s “America first” message.
And this means?
Steinmeier said international conflicts could only be solved nowadays if heavyweights like the United States and Russia and others joined forces.
“No American president can get round this change in the international security architecture,” Steinmeier said, adding that this was why “‘America first’ is actually no answer to that”.
Uh huh. Allow me to translate this. The Europeans are in big trouble thanks to their refusal to deal with the mass migration of military age Muslim men. Rather than deal with the problems they created, they want Uncle Sam ton once again ride to their rescue.
Steinmeier also said that Trump’s speech was contradictory, with the Republican calling on the one hand for ‘America first’ but on the other hand urging the United States to withdraw from the world: “Those two things don’t seem to fit together very well to me,” he said.
And, as usual, the silly German totally misunderstands the American traditional way of thinking about the world. We don’t care about it all that much. We prefer to have a few close friends, trade with anyone who wants to fairly trade with us, and in general, mind our own business.
Granted, when we pulled back after World War One in 1918, we ended having to go back in again in 1941 to clean up another mess the Europeans, specifically, the Germans, had made. Of course, if the rest of Europe in 1919 had actually paid attention to what Wilson was saying, and not driven Germany into economic ruin, there may not have been a NAZI party or an Adolph Hitler coming to power. You may recall that the United States did no sign off on the Armistice agreement.
Well I hate to be the one to break it to you Frankie, but the United States is tired of being the worlds policeman, especially when countries like Germany not only won’t lock their doors, but actually throw them open and point out where the valuables are to the home invaders. We bailed out Europe twice, and you appear to be once again throwing it all away. This time, unless you step up to the plate, you’re on your own.
