Good day all. Over the last year or so, we have seen many immigration lawyers on assorted talk shows demand that their clients be allowed into the United States, and basically made citizens. Most of these shysters couldn’t care less about the actual laws regarding immigration into the United States.
However, while they will argue in court, trying to convince some pinhead of a judge to reject the laws and the Constitutional separation of powers, most of them at least pretend to abide by the law. There are exceptions and Andreea Dumitru is one of them. Here are the details from the Washington Times:
The federal government announced charges Wednesday against an immigration lawyer prosecutors say filed more than 180 bogus asylum applications, lying about her clients’ criminal pasts and making up other details in order to try to pave the way for them to get legal status. Andreea Dumitru faces counts of asylum fraud and making false statements on applications dating back to 2012.
I found Dumitru’s law firm’s web site. It’s a basic site listing what they do, or I should say, what she did. I didn’t see any listings for other lawyers, so I suspect she’s a one lawyer show. I doubt the link I just made will remain valid for very long if the charges are proven.
The indictment, unveiled in court documents Wednesday, says Ms. Dumitru lied to shield applicants’ criminal pasts and to make up details of their supposed persecution back home — a key element for those seeking asylum. She also forged some of her clients’ signatures on the documents, the government says.
“There are people who enter this country with valid asylum claims, waiting in line among all the frauds,” said Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent-in-Charge Angel M. Melendez.
In reviewing Ms. Dumitru’s web site, it states that she is from Rumania. I would assume that she has become a United States Citizen. If she hasn’t and is living here with a Green Card, she’s out of here if convicted. In any case, why was Dumitru using the asylum process instead of the normal system, simila to what the former Mrs. Webmaster used to immigrate?
Asylum is a protection granted to people who’ve already made it into the U.S. It’s similar to protections for refugees, who are those applying from outside the country. Illegal immigrants have begun to use the asylum system in recent years as a backdoor way to gain status in the U.S.
Homeland Security officials and border analysts said smuggling cartels are coaching migrants on “magic words” they can use to trigger the asylum process. They claim to have a “credible fear” of being returned to their home country.
Once they’re in the asylum process they are usually granted work permits, giving them a foothold here. The number of people filing for asylum has soared from about 76,000 in 2012 to 142,000 in 2017.
And now the Trump Administration is starting to pull back on accepting asylum seekers. There is just to much fraud in the system. Thanks to people like Andreea Dumitru, those who really are in danger will be turned away. If she’s found guilty, I hope they lock her up for a nice long time then ship her back to Romania with nothing more then the clothes on her back.
