Green “New Deal” Loses the Unions

Good day all. Alexandria Occasional-Cortex’s Green New Deal came out and was promptly ridiculed for it’s plans to turn America Communist. The “White Paper” that came out with the details was so bad, that it was quickly removed from Occasional-Cortex’s web site and one of Occasional-Cortex’s advisers flat out lied about it on Tucker Carlson’s show.

Now the unions, who you would think would be big supporters of Alexandria Occasional-Cortex’s power grab would be fully on board for it. One of the laws that would have been implemented would have been mandatory union membership for all Americans. (And lots of “Dues” being looted from workers paychecks) However, this turns out not to be the case. Here are the details from Fox News:

Labor unions are warning that the “Green New Deal” proposed by Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is vague and potentially dangerous, signaling that the progressive proposal may be in for even more turbulence following a rocky rollout last week.

While conservatives have fiercely criticized the Green New Deal resolution for promising a job to “all people of the United States” — including those “unwilling to work,” according to an accompanying document published, and later disavowed, by Ocasio-Cortez’s office — the pushback from union leaders indicates that the progressive proposal has not won over a core element of the liberal base.

Speaking to Reuters, a spokesman for the coal industry union United Mine Workers (UMWA) characterized Ocasio-Cortez’s goals as lofty and potentially dangerous to rank-and-file blue collar workers. In particular, union officials took umbrage at the resolution’s call for a “fair and just transition for all communities and workers” in order to “achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions” in the span of just ten years.

“We’ve heard words like ‘just transition’ before, but what does that really mean?” the spokesman, Phil Smith, said in an interview. “Our members are worried about putting food on the table.”

The last time the miners union heard phrases like “Just Transition,” it was during the Obama regime and it ended up throwing thousands of union member out of work and onto welfare rolls. There’s a reason President Trump did so well with the UMWA members. He’s been busy making it possible for them to get their jobs back.

Added Yvette Pena O’Sullivan, the executive director of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA): “We will never settle for ‘just transition’ language as a solution to the job losses that will surely come from some of the policies in the resolution.”

LIUNA, a construction union, has about 500,000 members, including 80,000 in Canada. And executives at another construction union, the North America’s Building Trades Union (NABTU), raised similar concerns.

As much as I despise unions, I will say this much. Even they know that what the CommuNazis plan for America will end up destroying the economy, and throw their membership out into the streets. They’ve already seen what happens when Unions back policies that cost their membership their livelihoods. The unions end up broken as their members leave.

Union members “working in the oil and gas sector can make a middle-class living, whereas renewable energy firms have been less generous,” Sean McGarvey, NABTU’s president, said last week.

They not only make middle class incomes, most of these jobs are hard, dangerous and honestly, tough to fill. People who take them can make, depending on what they do, up into the 6 figures in income, and they earn every penny of it. The Green New Deal is nothing less than a plan to wreck the economy, throw millions of people out of work and then make them slaves to the “All Powerful State.” Well, when the Democrats lose the unions, they’ve pretty much lost it all. 2020 is going to be a very interesting election cycle, thanks to people like Alexandria Occasional-Cortex and the other Progressive Totalitarians in the Democrat party.
