EPA threatens Kalifornistan for their crappy air quality

Good day all. In the “Just Desserts” department, we have the Environmental Protection Agency telling Kalifornistan that their air quality is bad and that they need to clean up their collectivist act if they want to keep getting my tax money.

For decades, Kalifornistan has been imposing their ideas of how to clean up the air on the rest of the country. Recently, The Trump Administration stripped Kalifornistan of their privilege of screwing over everyone else in America. Now the other shoe has dropped. Here are the details from USA Today:

First it was homelessness. Then automotive standards. And now it’s air quality. The battle between the Trump administration and California escalated Tuesday as the Environmental Protection Agency threatened to withhold billions in federal highway aid because California has, in the EPA’s words, “the worst air quality in the United States.”

As you might expect, the ruling elite of Kalifornistan is not very happy with this turn of events.

Reaction from leading Golden State officials was swift and scathing, with particular emphasis on the ironic nature of the threat.

The letter from EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler to California Air Resources Board chair Mary Nichols arrived just days after President Donald Trump directed his administration to revoke California’s waiver on auto emissions, a move that would undercut the state’s decades-long effort to improve air quality by setting stringent standards on tailpipe discharges from cars and light trucks.

“This letter is a threat of pure retaliation,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement. “The White House has no interest in helping California comply with the Clean Air Act to improve the health and well-being of Californians.”

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) called the EPA’s warning letter “the height of hypocrisy,” adding that “California doesn’t need to be lectured by an administration beholden to polluters.”

So sad, Too Bad, Baron Trump’s Dad. You just aren’t used to people telling you to clean up your own mess, and let’s be honest, Kalifornistan makes most pig sty’s look positively hygienic in comparison.

Newsom and Feinstein both noted California’s strong environmental track record, particularly in contrast to the Trump administration’s withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement and its recent efforts to roll back Obama-era regulations on everything from methane to endangered species.

Shall we start to take this paragraph apart? How about we start with that load of horse manure known as the Paris Climate Accord? That load of crap was never about the climate, it was all about looting the American taxpayers and instituting a socialist totalitarian system on the United States.

It was nothing more then a massive wealth transfer from the American citizens and business to the European Union and the Turd World. There is a reason Der Fubar never submitted the agreement to the Senate to be ratified. It would have been laughed out of the building.

Next, let’s take a look at all the Obama regulations. Since President Trump began rolling them back, the economy has exploded and unemployment is now at historic lows, especially for the traditional Democrat slaves voter groups. People who were flat out prevented from finding work are now being actively recruited and are making real money. The welfare rolls have dropped significantly. The Democrats have promised to ram these regulations back into place which will lead to a massive hike in unemployment with people forced back on to the Democrat’s plantation system welfare.

Finally the endangered species act. We have seen that this was used for one reason only. To steal property rights from people. Many of these so called “Endangered Species” never existed in the environments being locked down, and are not actually endangered in the first place.

The threatened withholding of highway aid comes nearly a year and a half after Trump proposed an industry-friendly rewrite of air quality regulations he says pose “unnecessary and outdated barriers to growth.”

One of the issues with the regulations was the complete lack of understanding by the progressive envirowhackos running the EPA. In many cases, thanks to regulations, companies that were looking to do upgrades to their plants, (Mostly electric generation plants), and wanted to do it in the most cost efficient way, were flat out told it was “All or nothing.” In other words, where they might upgrade section “A” and then take care of Section “B” next year, they were told they had to do it all now, and damn the costs. So, the companies elected to do nothing.

The proposed loosening of air quality standards came in the form of a directive Trump issued in April 2018 instructing the EPA to work with states that have metro areas which failed to attain clean air standards. The president’s primary aim, the directive states, is “promoting domestic manufacturing and job creation.”

One problem for companies that want to build new plants is the massive amount of paperwork they need to provide regarding the environment. They would make a good faith effort, and then be slammed with more demands, lawsuits and delays, culminating in the companies not opening new plants and providing new jobs.

Building or expanding major projects, such as highways and manufacturing plants, in these “non-attainment” areas requires extra time and cost to make sure the increased industrial activity won’t worsen air quality. And states with non-attainment areas have to file plans with the EPA to show how they’re confronting the problem, a review process that can take years.

And here is where the hypocrites of Kalifornistan show just how much they actually care about the environment.

In his letter, EPA Administrator Wheeler scolded CARB chair Nichols for not doing enough to meet Clean Air Act standards for at least one of six key pollutants — ground-level ozone (smog), particulate matter (soot or smoke), carbon monoxide, lead, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide.

As a result, 34 million of the state’s 40 million residents live in 82 areas that fail to meet federal ambient air quality standards. Of the roughly 350 State Implementation Plans (SIPs) EPA has on backlog from states that are in non-compliance, about a third – 130 – come from California, the letter said.

“Since the 1970s, California has failed to carry out its most basic tasks under the Clean Air Act,” Wheeler wrote.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Kalifornistan’s Progressive Elites love to scold the rest of the country, but the facts are, they are doing absolutely nothing to clean up their own air. They have passed massive rules and regulation that have achieved one certain thing. Companies are bailing out of the state. Instead of actually working with the businesses to develop effecting, simple and inexpensive solutions, they just pile on more and more regulations.

Now the bill has come due and the chickens have come home to roost. (And cough in all the bad air) Kalifornistan has been flat out told to put up or shut up. In true Progressive style, they are blaming everyone else and demanding that they should be allowed to do whatever they want. Welcome to the real world moonbats, in real life there are no “Participation trophies.”
