Good day all. The Great Panicdemic of 2020 has shown America and the world a lot of things, none of which the Progressive Elite ever wanted to come out. The big thing is that it does look like the Coronavirus did escape a lab in Wuhan and that Anthony “Dr. Science” Fauci is actually responsible for the damn thing existing in the first place.
Add to this the massive profits Big Pharma made, along with their indemnification against liability lawsuits, and someone made out like a bandit. One of those someone’s appears to be…Anthony Fauci. Here are the details from Open The Books:
Last year, the National Institutes of Health – Anthony Fauci’s employer – doled out $30 billion in government grants to roughly 56,000 recipients. That largess of taxpayer money buys a lot of favor and clout within the scientific, research, and healthcare industries.
A fair chunk of that money was for absolutely useless, and in some cases, illegal experiments on animals, such as cute little puppies.
However, in our breaking investigation, we found hundreds of millions of dollars in payments also flow the other way. These are royalty payments from third-party payers (think pharmaceutical companies) back to the NIH and individual NIH scientists.
We estimate that between fiscal years 2010 and 2020, more than $350 million in royalties were paid by third-parties to the agency and NIH scientists – who are credited as co-inventors.
Open The Books sued to get the records, and as expected, the CDC and NIH fought disclosure tooth and nail. They lost of course. Still they are dragging their feet.
The production is the result of our federal lawsuit vs. NIH. The agency admits to holding 3,000 pages of line-by-line royalties since 2009. So far, they’ve produced only 1,200 pages. The next 1,800 pages of production will cover the period 2015-2020. However, what NIH has produced to date gives us insight into the undisclosed royalty largess. For example, only 900 scientists were estimated to be receiving royalties, so now we know the universe is much larger.
Even with the foot dragging, Open the Books did get some interesting data.
We found agency leadership and top scientists at NIH receiving royalty payments. Well-known scientists receiving payments during the period included:
- Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the highest-paid federal bureaucrat, received 23 royalty payments. (Fauci’s 2021 taxpayer-funded salary: $456,028).
- Francis Collins, NIH director from 2009-2021, received 14 payments. (Collins’ 2021 taxpayer-funded salary: $203,500)
- Clifford Lane, Fauci’s deputy at NIAID, received 8 payments. (Lane’s 2021 taxpayer-funded salary: $325,287)
In the above examples, although we know the number of payments to each scientist, we still don’t know how much money was paid – because the dollar figure was deleted (redacted) from the disclosures.
I wonder if Open The Books has spoken with Senator Rand Paul? I think he would be very interested in the information, and as part of the oversight committee, can force Fauci to hand over the documents. It might have to wait until next year when the Republicans take back control of the Senate after the midterm shellacking the Democrats are expected to take. There is a lot more in the article on who is getting what. As I was reading through it, I came across this little gem regarding our favorite bureaucrat.
To this day, Fauci continues to receive NIH-approved perks without a lot of accountability. For example, in February 2021, Fauci received a $1 million prize from the Dan David Foundation in Israel for “speaking truth to power” during the Trump administration.
One of the things we’re now finding out about Fauci was that he and others at the CDC and NIH deliberately worked to undermine President Trump. For that alone, Fauci and his former boss, Collins should be brought into Congress and raked over the coals, and if warranted, criminally charged.
There needs to be a lot more sunshine on this potentially unholy alliance.
When a federal bureaucrat pops up on television giving us health instructions, who has paid them and for what research and technology?
I’m of the opinion that these government bureaucrats should not be getting one thin dime from outside sources that they are regulating.
NIH needs to come clean with the American people and open the books on the line-by-line royalty payments to the agency and its scientists.
Yeah, good luck with that! The CDC and the NIH are everything that is wrong with the Washington bureaucracy. It’s going to take a President with Balls and a Congress that will back him to reign in these agencies. With regards to Fauci and the NIH, it looks like Rand Paul has decided they can’t be reformed and that the only fix is termination…with extreme prejudice. In other words, end all funding, zero out the budget, close the whole thing down and fire everyone. It can’t happen soon enough.
