The 2022 results still showing surprises

Good day all. There have been a few interesting races that have surprised people. One is the race for New York’s 17th District. This was between Sean Patrick “Let them eat Chef Boyardee” Maloney and Michael Lawler. Maloney lost his re-election.

What makes this even sweeter is that Maloney was also the chairman of the Democrats house campaign committee. Here are the details from the National Review:

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney conceded Wednesday morning to New York state assemblyman Michael Lawler in New York’s 17th congressional district, making Lawler the first Republican to defeat a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman in 40 years.

The concession, first reported by NBC News, comes after a closely fought race: As of Wednesday morning, with 95 percent of the vote counted, Maloney trailed Lawler 50.6 percent to 49.4 percent, according to the New York Times.

I don’t have the actual vote totals for that race, but it’s obviously a close one with about a single percentage point between them. In many races, you would see a recount. Perhaps the actual victory margin for Representative-Elect Lawler was outside of the Circular Error of Fraud.

Lawler has dealt Democrats an embarrassing loss in an area that President Biden won by 10 points in 2020.

It looks like at least one district in New York is beginning to understand what a disaster the Democrats are these days. To bad most Democrats to have the ability to actually think these days.

He told National Review last week that three things had helped make the race so tight: his time spent on the campaign trail with targeted messaging about issues that matter, redistricting, and a “significant amount of money” spent by outside groups.

Whether you’re talking about inflation, whether you’re talking about crime, whether you’re talking about education, those are what folks are concerned about,” Lawler said.

It didn’t hurt that Maloney really put his foot in his mouth not long ago with his comments about people eating canned noodles if they can’t afford to buy gas to get to work, keep a roof over their heads or eat. Of course, there was the usual excuses about redistricting, but the simple fact is, Maloney was just another soft on crime, hard on the working people Progressive and the voters finally figured it out.

Maloney was hard hit by an ad focused on comments he made in 2018 while running for state attorney general that he “absolutely” backs ending the cash bail system and that he’d “make it a top priority.”

Ending Cash Bail has been an absolute disaster for New York and other areas that have gone that route. Crime is out of control to the point that people are now thinking about turning to vigilantism. Add to that New York’s denial of people’s right to defend themselves, and…well you see the early results. Maloney is out on his ear.

Democratic lawmakers told NBC News Maloney was caught in a tricky balancing act, trying to save Democrats’ razor-thin House majority while also looking out for his own reelection prospects. Maloney told the outlet he has recused himself from making the decision to spend DCCC money on his own race.

Neither of which he accomplished. Yes, the victory margin is far less then we had hoped, but the House is going Republican, and so is the 17th District of New York. Congratulations to Representative-Elect Lawler, and as for Maloney? Enjoy your can of SpaghettiOs, and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
