Good day all. I posted this morning about what an abject failure Kevin McCarthy’s plan to be Speaker of the House has turned into. Since then, things have gone from bad to “Are you kidding me? WTF happened?”
The House of Representatives went back to work today trying to elect a new Speaker of the House. After three failures yesterday Kevin McCarthy decided to see if the “Rule of Holes” actually applies to him. Well, it certainly does.
There were three more votes and there are now 20 Republicans who have announced they will not vote for McCarthy under any circumstances. Yesterday and today, there were a number of people nominated, many of whom don’t want the job. (Jim Jordan was one of those) Now someone I’ve never heard of has been getting a lot of votes, Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla.
President Trump has called for the Republicans to just vote for McCarthy, however the conservatives basically said “We’re sorry Mr. President. We like you and all, but it was people like McCarthy who shafted you once you were elected and again when the election was stolen from you in 2020. We are drawing a line in the sand.”
The House has adjourned for the night after telling McCarthy “Oh HELL NO!” for the 6th time. It will return to work tomorrow, and tonight there will be a lot of plotting, planning, pleading and threatening. I suspect it won’t make a difference. McCarthy is not trusted by a lot of the GOP Caucus and certainly not by a majority of the Republican Base. He needs to step aside. The problem is, his ego is the size of a galaxy and as far as he’s concerned, it’s his turn. Enjoy the show people. We’re seeing history in the making.
