Good day all. A couple of weeks ago, in East Palestine, Ohio, a train catastrophically derailed and caused a massive chemical spill. This led to the decision to set the chemicals on fire as the best way to deal with the issue.
I’m not going to go over the decision to set the tanker cars on fire. There are others better qualified then I am to discuss and debate it. All I’ll say is, with my very limited information, that maybe they should have considered bringing up tanker trucks and offloading as much of the chemicals as they safely could? No, what this post is about is the Biden Maladministration refusing to provide any assistance to the residents of East Palestine, at least until President Trump announced he was going to pay them a visit. Here are some of the details from the New York Post:
The Biden administration sent federal emergency officials to the site of Ohio’s toxic train derailment Saturday — two weeks after the disaster released a chemical plume that contaminated local streams and caused a mass evacuation of panicked residents.
“US [Environmental Protection Agency] and Ohio EPA have been working together since day one,” Gov. Mike DeWine and Thomas Sivak of the Federal Emergency Management Agency said in a joint statement late Friday. “Tomorrow, FEMA will supplement federal efforts.”
The problem is that it took 2 WEEKS for FEMA to actually show up and do its job, and many suspect they wouldn’t have one a damn thing if they had been able to suppress all the information coming out.
Locals in East Palestine, Ohio have bitterly criticized the slow state and federal response since a train carrying toxic vinyl chloride and other chemicals derailed Feb. 3.
I can’t speak to the state government’s reactions and will let those who are closer comment on it. As to the Feds? They caused this mess in the first place.
A “controlled release” and burn of hazardous materials from the 150-car Norfolk Southern freight train — conducted, officials said, to avoid a major explosion — killed thousands of fish, sickened pets and wildlife, and sparked fears of serious health risks for the town’s 5,000 residents.
I understand that a number of people would like to know how an explosion might have happened and what could have been done to prevent it while offloading all the chemicals in the tank cars. Setting the damn things on fire and sending up a huge cloud of toxins doesn’t strike me as the correct way to go. In any case, FEMA should have been on site and working to mitigate the damage and prepared to offer aid.
But the crisis did not qualify for a federal disaster declaration — or for FEMA aid, a Biden administration official told Fox News earlier on Friday.
The maladministration suddenly changed its tune when the Greatest President of the 21st Century, Donald Trump, announced he was going to visit East Palestine.
Meanwhile, former president Donald Trump made political hay of the issue and bashed President Biden — hours after a tweet from his son, Donald Trump Jr., revealed that his father will visit East Palestine in the coming days.
“Biden and FEMA said they would not be sending federal aid to East Palestine,” the once-again presidential candidate said in an email to his supporters Saturday.
“As soon as I announced that I’m going, he announced a team will go,” Trump continued. “Hopefully he will also be there. This is good news because we got them to ‘move.’ The people of East Palestine need help. I’ll see you on Wednesday!”
Isn’t it interesting how quickly the Bumbles Biden maladministration changed its tune when President Trump said he was going to visit the site? Why you would think that they were scared that President Trump might do something that actually helped the citizens of East Palestine, Ohio, like trying to raise funds through private donations and stuff.
This fiasco might just be Biden’s version of “Heck of a job there Brownie.” For those who may not recall, when Hurricane Katrina slammed into Louisiana, it took the better part of a week for FEMA to get into place. Part of that is standard logistics after a category 5 hurricane slammed into the state, part of it was the criminal incompetence of the then mayor of New Orleans and the then governor of the state. The rest of it was flat out on the Bush administration.
That mushroom cloud over East Palestine is going to be visible right through 2024 and is going to have the face of Joe Biden photoshopped on it for all eternity. You’re doing one heck of a job there Dementia Joe.
