Good day all. Hot on the heels of CNN firing Don Lemon, came the news that Tucker Carlson was leaving Fox News. This caught everyone by surprise, and, as of this post, there isn’t much known about what happened or why. What is known is that Fox’s stock price dropped quite a bit on the news.
I have watched Tucker Carlson in the past, and he was probably the biggest draw of watcher on the network. (I basically quit watching Fox after the 2020 tainted election for obvious reasons) One of the biggest stories this year for Carlson was the release of the January 6th security videos, which showed that what the Democrats had been saying wasn’t actually true.
Apparently, there was a lot more that Tucker Carlson intended to show, but the rumors were that the higher ups shut him down. As I mentioned above, there was no warning or inkling that Carlson was going to leave, and there weren’t any internal emails or messages about it. This makes me think that something happened either over the weekend or Monday morning and that Tucker Carlson basically quit. Here are what few details I have from NBC News:
Fox News said Monday it is parting ways with firebrand anchor Tucker Carlson, the network’s most popular prime-time host and a leading voice in the modern conservative movement known for his conspiratorial rhetoric and culture-warrior provocations.
This came out on top of Fox’s settlement with Dominion Voting Systems. Many people have questioned that settlement, saying that it looked like Fox actually had a good case and Dominion didn’t.
“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” the company said in a short news release. “Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21st.”
Carlson’s most recent broadcast did not feature any indication that he was preparing to leave the network. “We’ll be back on Monday,” he said cheerfully at the end of Friday’s episode.
And this is why everyone was caught off guard. Unlike CNN’s firing of Don Lemon, no one saw this coming, least of all the shareholders of Fox.
Fox News did not specify why Carlson is leaving, and a spokeswoman did not immediately respond to an email from NBC News requesting more information on his abrupt exit.
Without question, the conspiracy theories on what happened will be ramping up big time. As to which, if any of the conspiracy theories may pan out?
What I can say is that Tucker Carlson leaving Fox, especially under these mysterious circumstances, is hitting them right where it counts. In their stock price. I’m looking at a chart for the last five days and you can see exactly when the news came out that Tucker Carlson and Fox had parted company. It’s a pretty sudden and very sharp drop.
As to what happens now for Tucker Carlson? He might be picked up by Newsmax or he may start his own streaming venture. As for Fox, the Murdoch spawn now running the place may be in for a bit of a surprise if the stock prices keep dropping. They might find themselves on the receiving end of a proxy fight and end up being ousted themselves. I think that Fox is now starting a slow spiral into obscurity.
