Al Sharpton low on cash, threatens McDonald’s

Good day all. Once upon a time, a good man by the name of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream. That dream was simple. People would not judge someone by the color of their skin, but by their deeds and actions. Today, the majority of Americans live by that dream. Some, however, do not. Most of those who do not are members of the Progressive Liberal Democrat party.

Granted, not all Democrats are screaming racist KKK wannabes. Some also live by the ideas of Dr. King, just not enough. One of these is Al Sharpton. He is what is known as a “Race hustler.” He basically extorts corporations, claiming they are racist and if they don’t do something, usually involving cash, he will lead a massive protest. Sharpton appears to be doing this again, with McDonald’s as his target of opportunity. Here are the details from Fox Business News:

The National Action Network, a non-profit civil rights activism group headed by Rev. Al Sharpton, has warned it will “mobilize” against McDonald’s unless the fast food company addresses accusations of racial discrimination.

Hmm, I wonder who made these charges? I would hazard a guess it was done anonymously.

Sharpton said he sent a letter to McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski on Thursday urging the company to acknowledge complaints of racism in its employment, advertising and franchising practices, though National Action Network did not publish a copy of the letter.

“We find it appalling and inexcusable that McDonald’s Corporation has not satisfied its differences with the Black community. There are lawsuits brought by Black franchises. Another brought by a Black former executive over racial discrimination from the highest levels,” said Sharpton.

He added, “And let’s not forget the $10 billion lawsuit brought by Byron Allen over the fact that Black-owned media did not get its fair share of McDonald’s supersized advertising budgets.”

This is the first I’ve heard about this $10 billion dollar lawsuit, and I don’t have any real information on it. From what very little I’ve seen about it, it sounds like someone has sour grapes over not getting a contract or something. Usually, when individuals or groups really have no case, they scream racism or sexism. These days, corporations only care about who is going to provide the best deal for their dollars. Someone’s ethnic background just doesn’t enter into the equation, unless it’s a Woke corporation.

NAN specifically mentioned the removal of John Rogers from the McDonald’s Corporation Board of Directors as an “issue” that must be addressed.

“We are also outraged at the removal of John Rogers, a well-respected business leader for the Black community, from the Board of Directors. We unequivocally demand they immediately acknowledge and address these issues, or we will begin a national campaign around McDonalds. You cannot sell Black folks Big Macs and give us little justice.”

First off, who the heck is John Rogers? Second, members of a Board of Directors change all the time. As to why he left the board?

Rogers retired from the board of directors in March 2023 after 20 years with the company. He retired alongside fellow board member Robert Eckert, who joined at the board at the same time as Rogers in May 2003.

“These retirements are consistent with the Board’s commitment to ongoing refreshment that maintains an appropriate balance of continuity and institutional knowledge with fresh perspectives among Directors,” McDonald’s explained last month in a press release announcing Rogers and Eckert’s retirement.

These two men were on the board for 20 years? Yeah, I’d want to retire myself, and you can bet they are getting a nice retirement package. Of course, Sharpton doesn’t see it that way. All he see’s is a way for another payday for himself and his “Non-profit.” (Those bespoke suits he wears aren’t cheap after all) This has the smell of a flat out extortion attempt and I hope the CEO and the current board of directors tell Sharpton to go pound sand. If he does try anything, then the McDonalds Corporation should sue him and his organization, and if they can swing it, criminal charges as well.
