Good day all. You can always tell a liberal progressive idiot, but you just can’t tell them much. A case in point is the new mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson. He was elected to replace the incompetent mayor Beatlejuice. It turns out, he’s just like Lori Lightfoot. A complete failure who blames everyone else for his screw ups. In this case, he’s blaming car companies for car thefts.
Chicago, like all Blue democrat run cities is collapsing under a skyrocketing crime rate. One of the major crime problems is car theft and carjacking. Rather then reverse course and admit he and the other moonbats were dead wrong about crime, he would rather blame the victims. In this case, he’s blaming car manufacturers for “Making their cars to easy to steal.” Here are the details from Fox Business News:
Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office announced that the city filed the lawsuit against automakers Kia and Hyundai, alleging that both companies have failed to include “industry-standard engine immobilizers” in several models of vehicles, which resulted in a “steep rise” in crime.
“The impact of car theft on Chicago residents can be deeply destabilizing, particularly for low- to middle-income workers who have fewer options for getting to work and taking care of their families,” Johnson said. “The failure of Kia and Hyundai to install basic auto-theft prevention technology in these models is sheer negligence, and as a result, a citywide and nationwide crime spree around automobile theft has been unfolding right before our eyes.”
The complaint specifically accuses both companies of failing to equip their U.S. cars sold between 2011 and 2022 with “vital anti-theft technology,” stating that both companies “deceptively assured consumers that these vehicles possessed ‘advanced’ safety features, despite knowing about this critical defect and its consequences.”
I wonder what that “Vital anti-theft technology” this moron is talking about? I have no doubt that they put locks on the doors and the ignition, which is what every other car manufacturer does.
“Because these vehicles are entry-level models, Kia’s and Hyundai’s failure to include engine immobilizers disproportionately impacts low-income Chicago residents. Moreover, offenders have used stolen Kia and Hyundai vehicles to commit other crimes, including reckless driving, armed robbery, and murder,” Johnson’s office said.
Engine immobilizers? I never heard of them, so I just did a quick Duck Duck Go search and came up with this bit of information. Of course, when a company put in some new tech, criminals quickly figure out how to get around it. Lo-Jack was a big thing once. However, criminals quickly figured out where Lo-Jack’s transmitters were installed and how to rip them out. Needless to say, Johnson was quickly slammed by everyone with at least one functioning neuron. Here are those details from Fox News:
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is facing backlash after filing suit against Kia and Hyundai over claims they manufactured cars that lacked appropriate anti-theft measures, ultimately leading to a surge in car crimes.
Democrat Alderman Raymond Lopez mocked Johnson over the lawsuit on “Fox & Friends,” calling the move a “play from a socialist playbook” as crime continues to ravage streets in the Windy City.
“Clearly, we don’t have a crime problem. We have a Kia problem in the city of Chicago, according to Mayor Johnson,” Lopez told Steve Doocy on Monday. “The numbers speak for themselves – 104% increase from last year, a 234% increase in vehicle thefts from two years ago – but yet it’s the car’s fault.”
Liberals will always blame the object, not the criminal. Guns are their preferred target of course, but any inanimate object will do.
“It’s the fact that they are so easily taken by criminals who run rampant in the city of Chicago, but we have yet to hear our mayor say anything, one word, about the criminals running rampant in our streets,” he continued. “And all he does in turn is lambast the media, lambast those who try to hold criminals accountable by playing word games.”
The mayor said that after the safety feature “defect” was broadcast throughout social media platforms, thefts began to surge.
This isn’t a “Safety defect.” A safety defect is one where the automobile has something that fails and can injure people, such as defective steering or defective brakes. Not installing an engine immobilizer is not a defect. It’s a cost cutting measure meant to keep the cars affordable. I understand that the manufacturers are now including it on all models. (Probably at the insistence of the insurance industry)
But Lopez argued that the surge in car thefts is attributable to the city’s liberal policies that favor “criminals on the street” as opposed to vehicle manufacturing.
“Chicago’s answer to the Kia problem was to hand out those steering wheel column locks, The Club, as a way of helping our citizens, not necessarily prosecuting those repeat offenders who know that they could steal a car, sell it or use it in crimes,” Lopez said. “I had a friend just last week whose car was stolen. It was used in 12 different robberies on the north side of Chicago.”
The club might slow down a thief, but not for long. There are ways to break the Club and release the steering wheel. Car thieves know how to do this, just like they know how to strip out a Lo-Jack unit.
“We know why they’re stealing these cars. We know what they’re doing with these cars, but the fact that we refuse to call out this behavior, and we’re giving cover to the criminals, seems to just be another liberal ploy,” he continued. “And to be perfectly honest, [it’s] a page from the socialist playbook because we’re blaming the manufacturer of the cars rather than the criminals on the street.”
Of course it’s from the Socialist playbook. The mayor is a socialist. And stupid. And a complete failure. And incompetent. If you want to stop car thieves and carjackers, perhaps we need to start selling Magnavolt systems.
Mayor Meathead’s lawsuit is probably going to be dismissed in fairly short order. He can’t prove that the lack of an engine immobilizer is actually a safety defect. I suspect that once the case is dismissed, the car companies might decide it’s time to make an example of these Socialist scumbags and sue them to recover all their legal costs. If they can do it in a way that removes their “Sovereign Immunity” and forces them to pay out of their own pockets, so much the better.

The city of Milwaukee sued Kia and got a $200 million settlement. Never settle with leftists.
