Good day all. Last week, November 19th, Elon Musk filed suit against the progressive anti-free speech group Media Matters. The details are that Media Matters rigged accounts to show antisemitic accounts next to ads, and that Media Matters then used this to get advertisers Twitter(X), to pull their ads.
Musk’s legal team produced a lot of data for the courts to consider. Now another group is looking into this from the criminal side of the fence. Here are the details from Fox News:
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is opening an investigation into Media Matters for “potential fraudulent activity” after X CEO Elon Musk accused the left-wing media watchdog group of manipulating data on the social media platform.
Recently, there was an attempt to remove Attorney General Paxton from office by a number of RINO Republicans in the Texas House. This forced him to step aside for a few months, until the matter was resolved the Texas Senate. Now he is back to work and looking at Progressive groups who break the laws of the land to push their narratives.
After a slew of advertisers, including IBM, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate and Paramount, fled X, formerly known as Twitter, Musk pledged to hit the watchdog group with a “thermonuclear lawsuit.”
And he kept his promise. I understand that there are other organizations that are going after Media Matters on similar grounds. (I don’t have the details, I heard about this on The Legal Mindset on YouTube)
Media Matters published a report on Friday accusing X of placing ads next to “white nationalist hashtags.” However, Musk believes that the group “completely misrepresented the real user experience” in order to mislead advertisers.
I don’t know what Media Matters was thinking. They went after Twitter(X). This is a technology company. When Musk took over, he cleaned out most of the leftist snowflakes and put his people into place. As soon as this “Report” came out, and Musk found out about it, they started combing through all their logs.
I have no doubt that as they were doing this, they also had Musk’s lawyers working with the tech people to maintain the chain of evidence as well as preparing everything for the inevitable discovery requests. Apparently, one of the advertisers “Targeted” by Media Matters actually spoke with Musk and Twitter to find out what was going on. The looked at the data Musk provided and basically said “Yeah, right. Go F**k yourselves MM” and are continuing their ads.
Republican Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey posted on Sunday that his legal team was “looking into” the matter. Now, Paxton is launching an official investigation with his office after being “extremely troubled” by the allegations.
“We are examining the issue closely to ensure that the public has not been deceived by the schemes of radical left-wing organizations who would like nothing more than to limit freedom by reducing participation in the public square,” said Paxton.
“Under the Texas Business Organizations Code and the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, the OAG will vigorously enforce against nonprofits who commit fraudulent acts in or affecting the state of Texas,” said the Texas Attorney General’s office.
That has always been the goal of Media Matters. They have been the attack dogs of the Progressive Liberal Elites, going after anyone who stood in the way of the Progressive’s goals of total domination. (Yeah, I know. That does sound a bit over the top, but look at what they’ve been doing for the last 15 years) Now, if the data Twitter(X) and Musk is generating proves out, not only is Media Matters going down, but this could extend even further.
One of the fun things in regards to lawsuits like this is the discovery process. I have little doubt that the Musk and X team have prepared for the requests from Media Matters. What will be interesting are the discovery requests from X to Media Matters. Media Matters doesn’t report who their financial supporters are.
There is an excellent chance that Musk and Twitter(X) is going to want the lists of donors and is going to examine them to see if there may have been some collusion. There are rumors that the DNC and George Soros are major contributors. If this pans out and it’s shown that they were involved or in some way aware of what media Matters was doing? Well, I have an understanding from legal people that it won’t be good for those donors.
The other shoe that could drop is that discovery evidence being handed over to the Texas and Missouri AG’s offices. If it shows that Media Matters was engaging in criminal as well as civil fraud, well, what can I say? They will have a new theme song.
One can only hope.
