Good day all. There have been rumors that the Trump 47 Administration was looking at a serious review of current and former military officers for actions in the Trump 45 administration and what happened during the Biden Bugout from Afghanistan.
There have been a number of reports on how people like General Mark Milley (ret.) contacted the Communist Chinese saying that they would prevent President Trump from “Doing anything” against the PRC in the closing months of his administration. Then we have the disaster that was the final withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Hundreds, potentially thousands of Americans were left behind, we had a dozen service members killed because a suicide bomber, who was spotted, wasn’t shot. Why? The sniper was denied permission to take the terrorist out. Finally, billions of dollars in equipment was left behind. Milley, instead of actually standing up to Biden and his minions and telling them their plan was a disaster, aided them in the debacle. Now there is a report that the Trump transition team is compiling a list of current and former officers to determine if they should face court martial. Here are the details from NBC News:
The Trump transition team is compiling a list of senior current and former U.S. military officers who were directly involved in the withdrawal from Afghanistan and exploring whether they could be court-martialed for their involvement, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the plan.
Please note that it looks like NBC is using their usual “Anonymous Sources” again, so take all of this with a few tons of salt. (Fake news and all that)
Officials working on the transition are considering creating a commission to investigate the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan, including gathering information about who was directly involved in the decision-making for the military, how it was carried out, and whether the military leaders could be eligible for charges as serious as treason, the U.S. official and person with knowledge of the plan said.
“They’re taking it very seriously,” the person with knowledge of the plan said.
Treason would be extremely difficult to prove, intentionally so. It is the one crime that is specifically listed in the Constitution and requires a great deal of proof. Right off the bat, those charged would have to be actively working with the enemy and I can’t see any officer calling up the Taliban and telling them what the plans were as well as handing over the keys to all the abandoned equipment. This is why I’m saying that this story needs to be carefully vetted.
The Trump transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
I suspect they were caught off guard. Not because this leaked out, but more then likely it’s either untrue or not even close to what is actually going on. I don’t doubt for one minute that the Trump Team is looking into what happened and who let that screwed up disaster occur in the first place. (In the end, it is all Biden’s fault)
Matt Flynn, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for counternarcotics and global threats, is helping lead the effort, the sources said. It is being framed as a review of how the U.S. first got into the war in Afghanistan and how the U.S. ultimately withdrew.
“Matt Flynn has nothing to do with the Trump transition team, much less leading any review concerning military justice matters,” said Mark S. Zaid, Flynn’s attorney. In a statement Zaid said that “no one has sought out Mr. Flynn’s views on this hypothetical legal scenario.”
And there is another nail in the coffin of this NBC News story. Since NBC used their usual “Anonymous Sources close to the Transition team,” and no named sources, it’s looking more and more like they are making this whole thing up. That Mr. Flynn has stated that he is NOT working with the Trump transition team further indicates that this is fake news by your typical Journalism School graduate.
NBC News did reach out to multiple officials on the Trump transition team about this story.
It looks like someone responded and blasted the idiots cooking up this story.
“The sources apparently pushing this story appear to be your typical selfish Washington, D.C. insiders seeking to gain better positioning for their own administration jobs,” said an individual with knowledge of the campaign.
President-elect Donald Trump has condemned the withdrawal as a “humiliation” and “the most embarrassing day in the history of our country.”
That isn’t any secret. What Biden and the Democrats did, with the complicity of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has gone down in history as one of the worst withdrawals since the Fall of Saigon.
It is not clear, though, what would legally justify “treason” charges since the military officers were following the orders of President Joe Biden to withdraw all U.S. forces from Afghanistan.
And that is yet another reason that this “Story” needs to be vetted. Treason is a very specific charge, and the last person who might have been charged would have been Johnny Walker Lindh. As for the charge itself, here is what the law actually says:
18 U.S. Code § 2381 – Treason
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
While there was incompetence and possibly cowardice on the part of senior officers, (Cowardice in the sense of protecting their pensions and future job prospects after leaving the military), I don’t see what they did as treasonous under American law or the Constitution. There may be other legal actions that could be taken, but that requires an actual investigation, and it looks like what NBC News is claiming, isn’t happening.
Now the new Secretary of Defense-Designate, Pete Hegseth, is former military and has publicly lambasted the Pentagon and the officers in charge during the Biden Bugout.
“These generals lied. They mismanaged. They violated their oath. They failed. They disgraced our troops, and our nation. They got people killed, unnecessarily,” he wrote. “And, to this moment, they keep their jobs. Worse, they continue to actively erode our military and its values — by capitulating to civilians with radical agendas. They are an embarrassment, with stars still on their shoulders.”
According the NBC News, the Transition team is looking at recalling discharged or retired officers. As I understand it, since I’ve never been in the military and can only go by what those who served have said, it is possible to recall a retired officer. I’m not to sure about those who have been discharged and aren’t taking any retirement benefits from the military.
It’s not clear the Trump administration would pursue treason charges, and instead could focus on lesser charges that highlight the officer’s involvement. “They want to set an example,” said the person with knowledge of the plan.
No, they won’t pursue Treason charges and for the reasons I’ve already written about. That’s something NBC might be pushing though. I can see Mark Milley being recalled and court martialed for his actions in the Trump 45 administration as well as the Biden maladministration. I suspect that if this actually happened, the worst charge he could face would be mutiny.
I think this story was something one of the Deep State losers put out there for the Democrat Propaganda Corps to seize and run with. Typical of so much coming from the MSM for the last 10 years, if not longer, it’s full of claims with no actual proof. Perhaps if they had a few named sources, it would be more believable. For now, until I see actual proof, I’m putting this in the “Yeah sure, whatever you say dude.” column.
