Shoe is now on the other foot, Letitia James under criminal investigation

Good day all. I’ve written quite a bit about New York Attorney General Letitia James. She ran for office initially promising to “Get Trump! No matter what it took. I don’t need to review the persecution of the Greatest President of the 21st Century, we all know how he was targeted by the Deep State.

Recently, information came to light that Letitia James herself may have been play fast and loose with the very same laws she went after President Trump on. The differences here were that the blatantly political lawsuit against President Trump had no victims who were harmed. In James’s case, the harm done was to the America Taxpayers. Now the DoJ has opened an investigation. Here are the details from Fox News:

The Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James, Fox News has learned.

A source familiar with the matter confirmed that a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia sent out subpoenas related to accusations that James misrepresented a single-family home in Virginia as her primary residence to obtain more favorable loan terms.

Well, they are going all official and everything. They have impaneled a grand jury. They are doing an actual investigation. Then they will determine if the evidence presented warrants criminal charges. Pity that none of these processes were used under the Garland DoJ, insofar as I know. Besides, we all know how grand juries work.

News of the federal probe follows a criminal referral from the Trump administration’s Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, who requested the DOJ investigate James over that matter and another incident in which she allegedly misrepresented the number of livable units in a multifamily Brooklyn house to once again obtain better loan terms.

I have written about this myself. Interestingly, this all seems to have come out very recently. More importantly, this was all discovered by actual real reporters doing actual investigations. It wasn’t discovered by the DoJ or the Federal Housing Finance Agency. It was only when this became public did the Federal Housing Finance Agency start looking into things. This hasn’t stopped James’s own lawyer from trying to defend the indefensible.

“These baseless and long-discredited allegations, put to rest by my April 24 letter to the Department of Justice, are suddenly back in the news just days after President Trump publicly attacked Attorney General James,” James’ attorney, Abbe Lowell, said Thursday.

“This appears to be the political retribution President Trump threatened to exact that AG Bondi assured the Senate would not occur on her watch. If prosecutors are genuinely interested in the truth, we are prepared to meet false claims with facts.”

While I have no doubt that President Trump is feeling pretty good about this, it wasn’t his administration that found the initial problems. As I said above, it was someone in the “Dreaded Private Sector” who found out that Letitia James is a fraud. It was when the news broke in the so called “Alt Media” that the government investigation started. Still, it’s a lawyer’s job to try and get their client out of the deep whole she’s dug for herself.

“The stunning hypocrisy of President Trump’s complaint that the Justice Department had been ‘politicized’ and ‘weaponized’ against him is laid bare as he and others in his administration are now asking you to undertake the very same practice,” Lowell wrote in his letter to Bondi.

Lowell, in his letter, pointed to instances when Trump has called for revenge and instances when the president has personally attacked James.

While President Trump may want revenge, unlike Letitia James and others, he’s not going to manufacture crimes out of whole cloth. There is also the little detail that it wasn’t the Trump administration that found this, it was a private citizen. Once the story was out, people in the administration started looking to see if there was anything to it. Apparently, there was, especially since James actually signed all these documents.

Lowell also responded to the allegations, including the claim James listed a home in Virginia as her primary residence while serving as a state official in New York. According to Lowell, James had no intention of using the property as a primary residence, and her indication of this in a power-of-attorney letter was a mistake. Lowell pointed out there were other documents in which James indicated to her lender that the Virginia home would not be her primary residence.

I wonder if you realize that you might have just thrown your own client under the bus? That signed document was submitted and as far as I know, Letitia James did not send in any paperwork indicating that an error had been made. So, she either lied on the forms to get a better mortgage and insurance deal, or she lied to the State of New York regarding the location of her primary residence. Which one is it counselor?

James is also accused of fraud for allegedly inflating the number of livable units in a multifamily Brooklyn home to receive better interest rates. Lowell accuses Pulte of disregarding updated documentation listing the residence as a four-unit multifamily residence and instead pointing to a certificate of occupancy from 2001.

That certificate has no bearing on the loan application other then to say it can be occupied by people. The issue is whether or not James benefited from the “Mistake.” If she got the lower rate for the four unit building, then I would say that she is in trouble. The same goes for the house in Virginia. Still, we are in the early phases of the Grand Jury investigation. They might just find that it all was an honest mistake.
