Google confesses that they were censoring conservatives

Good day all. For the last 7+ years, and probably for a great deal longer, we have had people complaining that they were being banned, blocked, downgraded, banned and otherwise censored by Google and its various products.

This really ramped up under the Biden Maladministration, and was partially confirmed when Elon Musk bought Twitter. He discovered just how deep the hooks of the Federal Government were in Twitter. He had this documented in what came to be known as “The Twitter Files.”

Now Google has finally admitted that they too were actively censoring anyone who went against the Communist Manifesto Biden Administration and the Democrat Party especially when it came to Covid-19 and the Great Panicdemic of 2020. Here are the details from the Federalist:

Following an investigation and subpoenas from the House Judiciary Committee, Alphabet — the parent company of Google and YouTube — admitted to censoring conservative voices and claimed Biden administration officials pressured it to silence expression online.

However, the company offered no compensation for the damages inevitably wrought on the voices they suppressed.

Oh Really? I know that Google has a bunch of lawyers, but their actions have cost people their very livelihoods and reputations. That they were also aiding and abetting in blatant civil right violations can’t go unpunished. At the very least, they need to lose their Section 230 protections.

In a statement of facts letter from company counsel Daniel F. Donovan to Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, Alphabet and YouTube (collectively “the company”) committed to reinstating users whose accounts were terminated from YouTube for supposedly violating “COVID-19 and election integrity policies that are no longer in effect.”

I was watching a YouTube podcast and one of the participants, who has several channels I believe, (None I watch due to lack of interest), mentioned that his YouTube dashboard was suddenly showing all the New User data someone would see if they were setting up a new channel. Shortly after he said that, the news came out regarding Google’s restoring of previously deleted or suspended accounts/channels.

The company also claimed YouTube, which is owned by Google, “values conservative voices,” despite its deeply stained record of censoringsuspending, “contextualizing,” and kicking such conservative voices off the platform.

The letter did not offer any plans for compensation for individuals who were deplatformed or demonetized under YouTube’s former content policies.

I can tell you what those plans are. They aren’t going to do anything to compensate the people they harmed. I think it one reason is the cost. Some of those channels were pulling in a huge amount of revenue and had millions of people watching them. Even if the channels are being reinstated, all those subscribers and viewers are gone now and likely won’t be returning. If Google were to compensate people for deplatforming them, it would cost them 10’s of billions of dollars.

The letter discussed changes to Covid-19 policies over time on the YouTube platform, and admitted that, though “reliance on health authorities in this context was well-intentioned, the Company recognizes that it should never come at the expense of public debate on these important issues.” (Notably, during the pandemic, the platform suppressed or threatened viewpoints challenging prominent narratives on masks, vaccines, and public health figures like Dr. Anthony Fauci.)

Well intentioned? The only reason Fauci isn’t locked up right now for his crimes was his being a recipient of one of the Biden Autopen pardons. The simple fact is, the people running and working inside Alphabet supported everything that Biden, the Democrat Party and the Deep State was doing. They saw no reason to push back or do anything to protect opinions questioning everything the maladministration was doing.

The letter also claims that senior Biden administration officials “conducted repeated and sustained outreach to Alphabet and pressed the Company regarding certain user-generated content related to the COVID-19 pandemic that did not violate its policies” and pressured “the Company to remove non-violative user-generated content.”

Again, you could have just said no. You didn’t because you agreed with everything that the Democrats and Deep State wanted. All you had to say was “No.” You didn’t and that’s why you need to get it right in the back of the virtual head in a court of law.

The letter adds that administration officials, “including President Biden, created a political atmosphere that sought to influence the actions of platforms based on their concerns regarding misinformation,” actions Alphabet and YouTube suggest are “unacceptable and wrong.”

The company indicated that it “consistently fought against those efforts on First Amendment grounds,” despite countless contemporary examples of YouTube censoring critics of the Biden regime, such as lawmakers discussing constitutional limits to Covid vaccine mandates, or even livestream footage showcasing how Big Tech meddled in the 2020 election.

Google is trying to hid behind the Biden Maladministration and the European Union’s orders to censor anything that went against the government’s, (US and EU), messaging. The problem with this is what happened after Elon Musk bought Twitter. When the Administration’s censorship people called in to tell Twitter to pull some tweets and kick people off the platform, Musk told them to “No.”

As The Federalist’s CEO Sean Davis pointed out, Alphabet and Google’s apparent attempts to deflect are not enough. Finger-pointing at the government and hiding behind the “unprecedented” nature of Covid, vague “commitments” to free expression, or “evolving” company policies, do not right the wrongs of silencing American voices.

Google owes us all damages for what their censorship cost us,” Davis wrote on X in response to the statement of facts letter. “A quick ‘we’re sorry’ now that they’re in trouble isn’t going to cut. Their censorship cost us millions.”

Back in 2020, Google threatened to demonetize the Federalist over it’s comments section. I’m going to assume it was Adsense and other tools such as search rankings. Senator Ted Cruz, (R-TX) wrote the CEO of Alphabet/Google and basically let him have it.

This is part of a bigger problem. The culture of free speech in this country is under attack, and Google is helping lead the charge,” Sen. Ted Cruz wrote in a letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai at the time.

I have a vague memory of reading something about Sundar Pichai. Apparently, he has nothing but contempt for the 1st Amendment and freedom of speech. Now I may be misremembering this and have no problem being corrected in the comments section.

Whereas Americans once understood that the best response to speech was more speech, some Americans, with the help of some of the most powerful companies on the planet, are now pressing to silence and punish those expressing views that do not align with the prevailing and ever-shifting progressive orthodoxy.”

Google’s decision to target The Federalist is transparently politically motivated,” he added, noting that “Numerous ‘progressive’ media outlets allow comments” and that “on any given day, there are thousands of profane, racist, and indefensible comments posted on YouTube, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Google.”

I have no doubt at all that Google knows that the proverbial jig is up and they are trying to circle the wagons. I know there has been some antitrust issues, but haven’t been following them. I’m not a big fan of regulating businesses or breaking them up in antitrust suits, but when a company willfully acts as an agent of the government and actively suppresses the rights guaranteed to the people, then that company has lost any claims to being independent and forfeited any legal immunity under Section 230 of the Telecommunications act. I think it’s time to unleash legal Hell on Google, and it should be done from the Private Sector.
