Good day all. I wrote this before Cocaine Mitch sent out his AI generated Proof of Life photo. Several weeks ago, Senator Mitch McConnell was found unconscious in his home, apparently after suffering a heart attack. Since then, there has been pretty much radio silence regarding McConnell’s condition.
There have been a number of rumors of course. McConnell is dead and they are hiding it to block Kentucky’s Democrat governor from appointing a commie to complete McConnell’s term. This fails since the Kentucky legislature is solid Republican and has put a condition on just that possibility. Governors in Kentucky do not select Senators. Another rumor is that McConnell is actually brain dead and on life support. Honestly, he’s been brain dead for years, so who would notice the difference?
Since there have been so many rumors, the GOP senate losership leadership has announced that McConnell is “Recovering.” Here are some details from Newsmax in this mess:
Former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has remained hospitalized for nearly three weeks following a June 14 medical emergency, with his office saying the Kentucky Republican is improving but providing few details about his condition or when he may return to the Capitol.
In answer to the second question, never sounds about right. As to the first question on his condition? Even at his age, if this were just a simple heart attack, he probably would have already been discharged and under care at home.
McConnell’s office said Thursday that the 84-year-old senator “continues to improve” and appreciates the support he has received while recovering, adding that he is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while lawmakers are away on a scheduled holiday recess.
NBC News reported that emergency-dispatch audio from June 14 showed responders being sent to an address associated with McConnell after a report of an unconscious person. The New York Times reported that later radio traffic referenced “CPR in progress.”
I have been involved in two situations where someone where I worked had a heart attack. One was minor and the person was back at work a week later. The other? It was damn close and only the fact that the office had an AED and people who knew how to use it allowed him to survive. He was out for a couple of months, although he was home within a few weeks if the incident.
McConnell’s office has declined to comment on the emergency communications despite reports from multiple news organizations.
If they did, they would have to basically prove that McConnell was actually awake, mentally functional and able to carry out some of his duties. This is where the Senate Senior RINO Majority Leader decided to add his $0.02.
The day after McConnell was hospitalized, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said he had spoken with McConnell and described him as remaining engaged with Senate business.
“He’s clearly dialed into what’s going on,” Thune told reporters at the Capitol, adding that McConnell was following developments in the Senate.
Senate Republican Whip John Barrasso, R-Wyo., also said he had spoken with McConnell following the hospitalization.
Excuse me if I don’t believe a word you’re saying. We’ve seen a number of long term members of Congress, both the Senate and the House disappear for months on end with no reports on their conditions. The late and unlamented Senator Dianne Feinstein was mentally MIA prior to her death in 2023. There have been several others who have been missing with no idea where they are or what had happened to them. (This is on both sides of the political aisle)
The Times noted that several other lawmakers in recent years have faced scrutiny after prolonged absences or medical issues became public only after outside reporting.
McConnell’s office has not said when Cocaine Mitch will leave the hospital or return to the Senate. Personally, I think he’s not coming back and isn’t capable of returning. This is his final term in office and he would be out as of next year. What McConnell has shown is that we need a mechanism to remove and replace members of congress who cannot carry out their duties.
There have been a few members who did step down due to health reasons. They knew that they couldn’t properly represent their constituents while they were taking care of their health issues. Now I’m not talking something short term where a relatively quick recovery is expected with a return to work. I’m talking long term issues.
Unfortunately, the only we can do this is through a constitutional amendment. Frankly, we need a few. In this case, we can repeal the 17th Amendment and restore how Senators were selected to the State Legislatures, add term limits and put a mechanism in place to recall or remove a Senator who isn’t doing his or her job. (Like showing up at the office) Do I think this will happen? Not a chance, not without a Constitutional Convention.
Right now, if the Senate GOP want’s to move forward, they need to prove that McConnell is awake and lucid, not hooked up machines that are keeping him alive while he is in a coma. I don’t see these idiots doing this. If they did and it showed McConnell was not conscious, or even alive, it would hammer the GOP senate Leadership, probably forcing them to step aside for new leaders.
