Good day all. One of the major problems with the United States is the number of nonmilitary federal government employees on the payroll. These numbers have been climbing for well over a century, much to the detriment of the country.
While there are any number of positions that are truly needed, most are a complete waste of money and resources. (But then, so are most of the government agencies) In his first term, President Trump started to make cuts, but ran into the Deep State. When the Worst President in History wad imposed on the nation, Dementia Joe Biden, the federal workforce numbers skyrocketed. Then President Trump was returned to office and this time he was ready. Mass layoffs have been going on and numbers are down significantly. Here are the details from Breitbart:
The federal workforce has contracted by 336,000 employees since President Donald Trump took office, reflecting his administration’s drive to reduce the size of the government bureaucracy. Federal government employment fell by another 5,000 in August to 2.674 million, the Labor Department said Friday. That is down from 3.010 million in January 2025, a decline of 11.2 percent.
Over the past year, federal payrolls have shrunk by 242,000 workers. Excluding the U.S. Postal Service, the decline was even larger, at approximately 251,000. Postal Service employment increased by around 9,000 during the same period, partially offsetting the broader reduction.
Well the post office does have to deliver all those mail in ballots to small houses in Democrat states, and carrying over 1000 ballots can take a few trips or a few mail carriers.
The contraction has slowed considerably this year. Federal employment is down by just 11,000 since January, indicating that the steepest cuts occurred during the first year of Trump’s second term.
Granted, that was when Elon Musk and DOGE were going through all those agencies and finding a huge amount of waste. Also, a fair number quit when they were told they were being transferred to east Buttwipe to be closer to the actual work. Still, more can and should be done.
The reversal of the Biden-era trend of expanding federal employment is even more striking. If federal employment had continued growing at its Biden-era pace, it would employ roughly 3.06 million workers today, nearly 386,000 more than it actually does.
One thing the Democrats do is expand the size of government. (Yes, far to many Republicans do the same, generally on a lower level however) The levels of featherbedding, not to mention the the opportunities for graft are enormous.
The decline in federal employment stands in contrast to continued hiring in the private economy. Private-sector payrolls rose by 127,000 in August, more than double the 53,000 increase expected by economists. Total nonfarm payrolls increased by 162,000, while the unemployment rate held at 4.1 percent.
Personally, I might argue this a bit, but then I am personally affected.
Overall government employment nevertheless increased by 35,000 during August because state and local hiring outweighed the federal reductions. Local government payrolls rose by 50,000, including nearly 42,000 jobs in local public education. State government employment declined by 10,000.
While I have no information on which states increased their payrolls, I can hazard a guess. It will be the Democrat mismanaged states such as Kalifornistan, New York and Masshole Central. Also states are ramping up for winter and the new school year, so that would be two, somewhat legitimate hiring requirements.
The figures show a marked change in the composition of government employment. While state and local payrolls continue to expand, the federal government now employs fewer workers than at any point since 2015.
Theoretically, the local residents of the various states can force cutbacks. In reality, especially in the cases of Democrat controlled states, the taxpayers are seen as nothing more that wallets the state governments can rob.
While this is good news, at least on the federal level, far more needs to be done. If you look at all of the Federal agencies and departments, outside of the military, law enforcement, (To some extent), and a few other areas, most of what Washington is doing isn’t actually constitutional. Take the Education Department…PLEASE!
That department was set up for the teachers unions and the educational elites. It doesn’t actually do anything to teach children. While President Trump is trying to close it down, it’s going to take congress to drive a stake though the Department’s cold, dead heart. There are many other departments that need to be closed down and the employees invited to seek other opportunities in the Dreaded Private Sector. If this doesn’t happen, sooner rather than later, everything is going to collapse and that will be the end of the Greatest Nation in history.
