Virginia State senator indicted for running drug ring

Good day all. This is a breaking story. It seems that a senior, (In more ways than one), Democrat in the Virginia State senate has been indicted for running a marijuana drug ring.

The senator, Lillie Louise Lucas, is the President pro Tempore of the Senate. She’s also 82 years old, hence my comment on being a “Senior.” Now she has been indicted in Virginia’s real life version of Breaking Bad. Here are the details from Fox News:

Virginia state Senator Lillie Louise Lucas was indicted Thursday on five charges that include drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud and firearms charges after being accused of running a marijuana distribution enterprise, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Lucas is among seven indicted in the sprawling racketeering scheme, a group that includes her two daughters, Lisa Lucas-Burke and Theresa Lucas-Lamb, and her grandson Ryan Eichelberger, Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a Thursday press conference.

A true family affair I see. Does anyone want to place a wager that she used her ill-gotten gains to fund her runs for office? How very Democrat.

“Louise Lucas has served in a position of public trust in the Commonwealth of Virginia for over three decades,” Blanche said in a DOJ statement.

“The charges alleged in this indictment reveal the behavior of a public servant who put her own financial interests before the people she was elected to serve. Our federal prosecutors will continue to be guided by the facts and evidence that led a grand jury to indict Ms. Lucas and her alleged co-conspirators.”

I think what Attorney General Blanche has just done is define the typical Democrat politician. They always put their financial interests first. Just ask Nancy Pelosi, or Ilhan Omar. (or whatever her real name is) Yes, I know that there are a few Republicans who have done the same thing. Cocaine Mitch McConnell comes to mind. The good news is, a fair number of those RINO types have been forcefully retired by the GOP base.

The 82-year-old Lucas has served as a Virginia state senator since 1991, and as the president pro tempore of the state’s Senate since 2020. As president pro tempore, she is the presiding member of the state senate in the absence of the state’s lieutenant governor. She has also served as chair of the state’s Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee since 2024.

I think the commonwealth of Virginia may want to do a deep review of anything regarding appropriations that she had anything to do with. I won’t be at all surprised if they discover that she also stole taxpayer funds.

“During that time, as alleged in the indictment, her and her six co-conspirators, instead of serving the public as was her job, manufactured and created a criminal enterprise to illicitly enrich themselves by procuring sales and stores and divisions through the marijuana and CBD enterprise,” FBI Director Kash Patel said Thursday.

I suspect she ran for office both as an ego boost and to gain access to records she wouldn’t normally have access to from law enforcement. That way, she could either short circuit an investigation or just hide all the evidence. That might have worked with state law enforcement, but the Feds have a bad habit of not talking about investigations that includes elected officials.

The DOJ said Lucas led the Lucas Enterprise with a close-knit group of friends and family that included her two daughters and a grandson.

Hmm, this sounds a lot like the Genco Pura Olive Oil Company from the Godfather. Basically a legitimate business to hide all their criminal activities. Much like the A1A car wash in Breaking Bad. Wonder if they were a cash business?

Lucas was directly involved in a wide range of activities within the enterprise, including the acquisition and distribution of 100 kilograms or more of marijuana and for the laundering of the drug sales proceeds, the DOJ said.

The state senator opened The CBD Shoppe and The Cannabis Outlet in 2019, according to the indictment. The pot shops’ openings came nearly two years before Virginia officially legalized marijuana for recreational use on July 1, 2021.

How did that work? Was there a law allowing medical use and they were selling through that?

In 2021, Lucas and her daughter Lisa Lucas-Burke, who is currently running for mayor in Portsmouth, Virginia, also opened The Cannabis Outlet in Portsmouth.

Well, I think it’s safe to say that Lisa Lucas-Burke’s political career has just ended before it even began.

During a conversation with an unindicted co-conspirator, Lucas pushed for favorable language in a Virginia state bill on marijuana reform, telling the co-conspirator, “This is our last chance at generational wealth…I’ve got too old to not be greedy,” the indictment stated.

I love the term of “Unindicted Co-conspirator.” That was someone who was the first one to cop a deal and turn on all the others. I wonder if he or she will be testifying? Now it appears that the FBI raided Lucas’s office and businesses back in April. I suspect it took this long to go through everything and then bring it before a grand jury. So, if this is standard procedure, we should see Ilhan Omar, or whatever her name is, being indicted in April. In any case, Lucas has responded. She posted her response on TwitterX.

“Today, the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the full weight of the federal government have been wielded against an 82-year-old great-grandmother,” she wrote.

Right on schedule, she played the race card.

“I grew up under Jim Crow. I’ve seen what happens when people in power try to silence those who stand up to them. I spent my life fighting back, and I’m not stopping now,” she continued.

“I’m not new to this. I’m true to this. I will not be intimidated. I will not be bullied. And I will not back down,” she concluded.

No, you are going on trial, and if the evidence shows that you are guilty beyond reasonable doubt, you are going to die in prison. I’m not sure what the actual sentence would be, but it’s very unlikely she will live to complete it.

Virginia’s Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger, a staunch ally to Lucas, questioned the timing of her indictment in a Thursday statement.

“I have read the charging document alleging a series of criminal acts by a member of the Virginia Senate. In our American system of justice, people are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and that is true for Senator L. Louise Lucas. She and her family deserve the opportunity to present their defense and speak to the allegations presented,” Spangenberg wrote in the statement.

Yup, and that is what I just said. She’s presumed to be innocent until the jury says “GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!!”

“The timing of this indictment undermines the U.S. Department of Justice’s previously longstanding policy of not taking legal actions — to include indictments or significant investigative steps — close to an election and sadly, this timing further erodes the trust the American people deserve to have in the Department of Justice,” the statement concluded.

As I understand it, the suspect is not currently up for reelection. In any case, you Democrats threw that one out in 2026 when Jack Smith indicted President Trump shortly before the presidential election. In any case, not indicting just before an election isn’t a law or even a rule, it’s a tradition.

Blanche addressed the timing and the DOJ’s policy of not indicting politicians within 60 days of an election, which he said was an unofficial rule and not part of the department’s manual.

“The Justice Manual speaks very clearly about what the Department of Justice can and can’t do. And we cannot bring a charge of our purposes improper. And there’s nothing improper about this purpose,” he said Thursday.

“The senator is not up for reelection,” Blanche continued. “This is a long-running case, as alleged in the indictment. It’s a RICO conspiracy case. It’s a narcotics case. and so while the timing of an indictment is something that we have always thought about at the Department of Justice, the expected complaints about the timing of this indictment are with past practices. And so I can’t, you know, people can criticize all they want. But it was time to bring the charges. The grand jury returned an indictment. And we made the arrests,” he said.

Lucas has a history of emphatically antagonizing President Donald Trump, his administration and Virginia Republicans broadly.

Yes, it’s shocking, I know. A Democrat that now one ever heard of until she was busted for running a major criminal enterprise hated President Trump and Republicans.

In March 2023, following a New York grand jury’s indictment of Trump, Lucas wrote in a post on X “Donald Trump just learned no one is above the law!”

And that was tossed and now Jack Smith might find himself under indictment. The charges were garbage and all part of the Biden/Garland DoJ’s all out lawfare against President Trump. This is why the odds are that the Lucas Crime Family is probably going to be convicted. President Trump, as a victim of Lawfare, is making sure, or his Attorney General and FBI director are, that anything that smells like political retribution is backed up with hard evidence that will stand up in a hostile court of law.

She has also been a central figure in her state’s failed redistricting effort, taking to social media to brag about the redrawn legislative map Virginia Democrats tried to push through. In an April post on X she wrote “Ten f—– one,” in reference to the proposed partisan breakdown which would have given the Democrats 10 of the state’s 11 legislative districts.

As I recall, that plan was tossed because they didn’t actually follow the law. So, I see a pattern here. The law is whatever this person wants it to be and never mind about things like evidence, the constitutions, Federal and State, as well as current Virginia law. And she has been in the legislature for 30+ years? In any case, I don’t expect a trial for the better part of a year. It will be interesting to see if she’s offered a plea deal. I think she has to do some time, but it could be in a country club prison, followed by home confinement. In any case, I expect er to be out of the Virginia State Senate fairly soon.
