Obamacare co-ops dropping like flies

Good day all. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been seeing all the Obamacare state co-ops going bankrupt and shutting down, tossing all their subscribers back into the search for mandatory health insurance.

Obamacare, Shovel Ready

Obama, as he tends to do, either ignores this or outright lies about it. However, congress is now asking what he plans to do about this mess. Here are a few details from Fox News:

Congressional lawmakers are raising alarm over the rapid collapse of several so-called ObamaCare “co-ops” — government-backed alternative health plans — that are failing, leaving tens of thousands of customers scrambling for coverage, and billions in taxpayer-funded startup loans at risk.

Fucknotgiven

To date, nearly half of the 23 co-ops established under the Affordable Care Act have gone or are expected to go under by the end of the year. The latest to be barred from selling insurance on the official marketplace is in Arizona.

In a letter to the head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Sens. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., pressed the Obama administration for answers on what is being done to address the crisis — and recoup some of the federal taxpayer loan money that has gone to the failing start-ups.

Oh great. Two of the bigger RINO’s, who should be working to shut this disaster down, are instead trying to figure out how to save Obamacare. I guess they still haven’t figured out yet that being Democrat lite isn’t what they were sent to Congress for. To continue…

“The CO-OPs are not living up to these expectations,” they wrote. “To date, eleven ACA CO-Ops — in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, Nevada, Tennessee, Oregon, South Carolina and Utah — have collapsed. “As a result, hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose their health insurance plans and will have to scramble to find new plans, most likely with higher premiums and deductibles.”

Dear Buttheads. When are you going to pay attention to the people who put you in office? Everyone who’s looked at Obamacare knows it was never meant to succeed. It was designed to fail, cause the destruction of the private healthcare system and create a socialist style system where doctors, nurses and other in the field were forced to become government, unionized of course, employees.

We don’t want this fixed, we want it shut down. Of course, you morons don’t pay attention to those who elected you, and that’s probably why so many of your pals have been “retired due to ill health. Their constituents got sick of them.”

The co-ops — or Consumer Operated and Oriented Plans — were created within ObamaCare as a compromise for liberals unable to secure the creation of a government-run insurance program. Under the plan, taxpayers provided $2.4 billion in loans to set up the nonprofit co-ops as alternatives to major insurers.

As usual, the Progressive Liberal Fascist Democrats who pushed this through were looking at a “Government knows best” system. And, as usual, the commies blew it.

An inspector general audit released over the summer found that in 2014, only one — Maine’s — of the 23 made money that year. And it found half of them lagged far behind their enrollment projections. Over the last several months, many of those co-ops have failed.

And this is with mandatory purchases. Recall John Roberts who utterly failed in his duty to the Constitution and let this disaster go through. I won’t bother going over my contempt for Roberts and most of the others on the Supreme Court. You already know I think they should have been impeached, convicted and removed from the bench.

The issue flared at a hearing Tuesday before the House Ways and Means Committee. “Only in Washington would a group of bureaucrats think they knew how to micromanage `competition’ instead of letting consumers and markets do what they do best,” said Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, who chairs the health subcommittee.

But Mandy Cohen, chief operating officer with CMS, told lawmakers that co-ops have played an important role in fostering competition and choice in the law’s health insurance markets, now in their third year.

“There have been successful co-ops which have provided consumers in their states an additional choice of health insurance and have improved competition,” Cohen said in written testimony. “And there also have been Co-ops that for a number of reasons have faced compliance, technical, operational, or financial difficulties.”

Didn’t I just quote that only one co-op has actually made money? I don’t recall seeing others. And as to providing “Additional Choices in Health insurance….

The insurance people are forced to buy has proven to be far more expensive, doesn’t provide the coverage and services of their original plans and is really substandard crap.

Aside from concerns over the future of other co-ops, Hatch and Alexander questioned what could be done to recoup taxpayer loans. They voiced concerns that federal officials might be allowing “creative accounting” by the co-ops to make them look more profitable than they actually are.

They are kidding aren’t they? That money is gone. Vanished. Down the drain.

Obamacare, as everyone predicted, is unsustainable and is now failing. What needs to be done is legislation unwinding the whole mess and replacing it with a true free market solution. First, end the mandates. It isn’t the place of the government to tell people what coverage they need. Advise, sure, but lets face it. I don’t need to worry about a pap smear and a woman doesn’t need to worry about a prostate exam.

Another thing, aside from ending the mandates, is to allow insurance companies to sell across state lines. The only thing that the state insurances boards should be doing is making sure that the companies live up to their contractual agreements. And of course, end the mandate that a person must buy health insurance. Do this, and let more companies sell into the markets and I’ll bet we will see costs drop significantly. Currently, all that Obamacare does is loot the taxpayers and send money to Obama cronies in the Insurance business.
