Good day all. Someone should tell the morons in Kalifornistan that George Orwell’s 1984 was meant to be a warning, not a list of suggestions for new legislation. In the latest “Brilliant Idea” from the Kalifornistan Legislature, someone wants to set up a group to monitor “Fake News.”
Only in Kalifornistan, where the Bill of Rights is considered an antiquated series of ideas, would someone come up with this stupidity, yet, someone did. Here are the details from CBS Sacramento:
Senate Bill 1424 would require the California Attorney General to create the advisory committee by April 1, 2019. It would need to consist of at least one person from the Department of Justice, representatives from social media providers, civil liberties advocates, and First Amendment scholars.
Ok, right off the bat I can see major issues, other then the part about the 1st Amendment being erased, with this bill. Any civil liberties advocate and certainly any credible 1st Amendment scholars would toss this bill right into the nearest incinerator. However, since this is Kalifornistan, where the only speech allowed is what ever the Progressives want to hear at that moment, I think it’s a safe bet that the deck is going to be stacked with Moonbats.
The advisory group would be required to study how false information is spread online and come up with a plan for social media platforms to fix the problem. The Attorney General would then need to present that plan to the Legislature by December 31, 2019. The group would also need to come up with criteria establishing what is “fake news” versus what is inflammatory or one-sided.

And there are a couple more problems. The only way to “Fix the problem” is outright censorship. And coming up with criteria on determining what is “Fake” news? Yeah, good luck with that! If you want to see some real fake news, then watch CNN, MSNBC, any of the networks, or read most of the so called “Main Stream Media” such as the New York Slimes or the Washington Compost. They are forever getting caught manufacturing news. But, since they are good Progressives working to “Stop Trump!” anything they say is real news, not fake.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation opposes the bill, calling it “flawed” and “misguided.”
How about “Outright unconstitutional? That works for me.
The group argues the measure would make the government and advisory group responsible for deciding what is true or false. It also points out the First Amendment prevents content-based restrictions, even if the statements of “admittedly false.”

Pesky thing for Progressives as well as some on the Statist right, that 1st Amendment, isn’t it?
A recent study by Massachusetts-based MindEdge Learning was conducted with 1,000 young adults, ages 18 to 31-years-old. According to MindEdge’s nine-question survey, 52 percent of the respondents incorrectly answered at least four questions and received a failing grade.
The number of young adults who could detect false information on the internet went down by all of the group’s measures. Only 19 percent of the college students and grads scored an “A” by getting eight or nine questions correct. That number is down from 24 percent in last year’s survey.
There is a reason these young skulls full of mush are having so much trouble. They aren’t taught how to think or do actual research. Schools today actually frown on independent thinking, logic and critical thinking. It turns out people with those skills generally can see right through the crap that the Social Justice Warriors like to push.
Facebook recently did away with its “Trending News” section – calling it outdated and unpopular.
It was unpopular because all it did was serve up crap.
That section was criticized in the past after reports came out claiming the human editors were biased against conservatives.
Now who is generating fake news? It was pretty much proven that the moonbats weren’t just biased, but outright hostile to conservatives and actively moved to suppress anything that a conservative might be interested in.
After Facebook fired those editors, the algorithms it replaced them with couldn’t always distinguish real news from fake.
Because there is no way TO distinguish it except by reading it and verifying the information. That actually requires things like research, logic and not letting “Feelz” get in the way.
After the 2016 election, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg denied that fake news spread on the social site he oversees influenced the outcome- calling the idea “crazy.”
As much as I despise that worthless pile of manure, I do agree with him here. I saw some of the fake news stories, but by then , I had already decided to support President Trump. I actually found the fake news stories amusing, but then, I am capable of actually looking things up.
A previous bill, AB 155, would have required schools to teach students the difference between “fake news” and “real news.” It died in the Assembly Committee on Appropriations.
Because it was a STUPID IDEA! When a Progressive says that something is “Fake News” it usually means it’s something they don’t want to hear, not that it’s actually false. This “Advisory panel” if actually enacted, would very quickly become Kalifornistan’s version of 1984’s Ministry of Truth. They would decide what was true and what wasn’t and any badnotgood thinking would be suppressed. I suspect that even in Kalifornistan, they know that this is going to far. But, it IS Kalifornistan, so who knows?
