Good day all. One of the things the Progressive liberal Democrats and their minions in the media have been doing is trying to blame President Trump for shortages of certain medical equipment, specifically the N25 mask.
An interesting tidbit of information has come out regarding the shortages. It seems that we used to have a large stockpile on hand, but a certain president by the name of Obama used them during the Swine Flu epidemic back in 2009, and never replaced them. Here are the details from the Washington Examiner:
The national shortage of N95 respirator masks can be traced back to 2009 after the H1N1 swine flu pandemic, when the Obama administration was advised to replenish a national stockpile but did not, according to reports from Bloomberg News and the Los Angeles Times.
The Trump administration is scrambling to replenish a stockpile of protective medical gear for healthcare workers and patients as the coronavirus sweeps across the nation. N95 respirator masks are one of the most needed medical supplies amid the outbreak.
It gets worse. It seems that most of the manufacturing for these masks is in China, and they have been using their production for their own use. While not surprising, it’s just another reason why we need to pull as much of our manufacturing base back into the United States as we can. Also, unsurprisingly, American businesses and individuals are stepping up and doing what they can to make these items themselves.
The George W. Bush administration published the National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza plan in 2005, which called on the federal government to distribute medical supplies from the Strategic National Stockpile governed by the Health and Human Services Department in the event of an outbreak.
And it looks like this was actually done. Former California governor, back when it was California and not Kalifornistan, Arnold Schwarzenegger put together several portable field hospitals and stored them away in case of an emergency. Governor Moonbeam Brown dismantled them as a cost saving measure.
In 2009, the H1N1 outbreak hit the United States, leading to 274,304 hospitalizations, 12,469 deaths, and a depletion of N95 respirator masks.
A federally backed task force and a safety equipment organization both recommended to the Obama administration that the stockpile be replenished with the 100 million masks used after the H1N1 outbreak.
And what did the Obama/Biden administration do? What they always did. Nothing unless it made Barack Obama look good.
Charles Johnson, president of the International Safety Equipment Association, said that advice was never heeded.
“Our association is unaware of any major effort to restore the stockpile to cover that drawdown,” he said.
HHS Secretary Alex Azar reported last month that only 12 million N95 masks were available in the stockpile, “a tiny fraction of the 3.5 billion masks one of Azar’s deputies later testified the nation’s healthcare system would need,” the Los Angeles Times noted.
Bloomberg News reported similar findings last week, noting, “After the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009, which triggered a nationwide shortage of masks and caused a 2- to 3-year backlog [of] orders for the N95 variety, the stockpile distributed about three-quarters of its inventory and didn’t build back the supply.”
Of course, people will ask why, once President Trump took office, they didn’t start rebuilding the stockpile. I suspect President Trump and his senior people had no idea that it was that depleted. Recall that the Obama holdovers along with the Deep State were doing everything they could to sabotage the Trump Administration.
Now, thanks to Barack Obama and Joe Biden, we’re desperately playing catch up. I have no doubt, once this Panicdemic is done, President Trump is going to put a bill in front of Congress to replenish our medical supplies and start a rotation process to keep everything up to date. I also have no doubt the Democratic CommuNazis will do everything they can to thwart President Trump.
