Good day all. The teachers unions around the country are notorious for not giving a damn about actually educating children. In all cases, they are simply a funding arm of the Democrat party.
Now the Los Angeles teachers union is calling for the LAPD to be defunded and a Soviet style health care system. In fact, these Communists have made it a condition of reopening the schools in Los Angeles. Here are the details from Fox News:
United Teachers Los Angeles recently released a research paper on steps needed to safely reopen public schools amid the coronavirus outbreak and pointed to the need to free up additional funding by defunding the police.
“Police violence is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue,” the paper said, citing the American Public Health Association. “We must shift the astronomical amount of money devoted to policing, to education and other essential needs such as housing and public health.”
I have an idea. How about telling the union leaders that they can take their idea and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine, sit on it and rotate. I’m sure they will be quick to do something stupid, like go on strike.
Teachers unions have long been criticized by Republicans as an extension of the Democrat Party. Republicans will likely use the paper to support that claim. The union’s paper also took aim at charter schools and reportedly called for a federal Medicare-for-All program.
Oh yes, charter schools. The enemy of the Teachers unions. Why you ask? Because the charter schools actually educate children, unlike the union controlled public schools in L.A. One of the things they’re demanding is ending charter schools. Of course, parents love charter schools and do everything they can to get their children into them, since they know they will actually have an education, and no political indoctrination.
LAUSD said that educators want to get back into their classrooms, but asked, “given broader societal conditions, how do we open physical schools in a way that ensures that the benefits outweigh the risks, especially for our most vulnerable students and school communities?”
I am looking at the list of demands from these communist scum and it’s a right out of the socialists playbook. They want to defund the police, making it easier for the lunatic sand nutjobs to go into schools and slaughter everyone they can.
They are also demanding funding for homeless shelters, which have worked out so well in the past. They are stating that it is a “Human Right” to have a house. It isn’t, it’s a nice to have thing, and honestly, getting the real homeless into shelters has always been a challenge.
Next they demand paid sick leave for parents who stay home with a sick child. Not for their union members apparently, but for everyone else. I do believe that is something that should be discussed between the employers and employees of private companies. Oh wait, they hate the free enterprise system as well.
They are also calling for welfare for illegal aliens, although they call it “Financial Support for Undocumented Students and families.” They also want the end of ICE, open borders and the usual leftist crap supporting the end of the United States as a sovereign nation.
And of course, the aforementioned ending of the Charter Schools. This is section is straight out of their list of demands. (Number 4 actually)
Privately operated, publicly funded charter schools drain resources from district schools—and many have “double-dipped” during this crisis by taking federal small business bailout loans even though state funding did not decline this school year. In addition, colocation adds students to campuses when we need to reduce the number of students to allow for physical distancing.

As I mentioned, charter schools are very popular in the United States for the simple reason that they perform. The public schools generally don’t. (Not a hard and fast rule. There are a number of very good school districts in the nation, and there are a few charter schools that can be defined as “Epic Failures”)
The paper pointed out that minority “working communities, where people are more likely to have ‘essential’ jobs” oftentimes have insufficient healthcare and face other risk factors while “the rewards of economic recovery accrue largely to white and well-off communities that have largely been shielded from the worst of the pandemic’s effects.”
And there is our usual Liberal racist attitude. They have decided that “Minorities” are not smart enough to make decisions and only their over-educated lords and masters are qualified to do so. Of course, these very same Progressives have done everything they can to make sure that “Minorities” never get any chance to move up the economic ladder.

Oh, one thing. Progressives generally consider Asians to be “Better then whites” when it comes to doing well in school, and they will not hesitate to punch the success of Asian students. (Yes, “Tiger moms” are a real thing) The discrimination of Asian students by Progressive Liberal universities has been the subject of hundreds of lawsuits. If your family came from Asia, and you want to go to one of the top end universities or colleges, such as Harvard, you can pretty much forget about it.
Cecily Myart-Cruz, the UTLA president, said, “We all want to physically open schools and be back with our students, but lives hang in the balance. Safety has to be the priority. We need to get this right for our communities.”

No, actually, you don’t. What you want is your membership to sit around, on the tax payers dime, doing nothing while you soak up the mandatory dues they have to fork over in order to be able to actually do their jobs. Most of the good teachers, like everyone else, is ready to go back and open the classrooms.
ABC 7 reported that 83 percent of UTLA members said schools should not physically reopen on Aug. 18.
Well, in that case, 83% of UTLA members can go find other jobs. I hear McDonalds and Burger King are hiring.
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said Sunday that she intends to have American schools open for in-person classes this fall, and insisted that this can be done safely despite concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
“Parents are expecting that this fall their kids are going to have a full-time experience with their learning, and we need to follow through on that promise,” DeVos told “Fox News Sunday,” stressing that “kids cannot afford to not continue learning.”
The UTLA and other unions do not care. I have little doubt that when the time comes and they reopen the schools, the union will issue their non-negotiable demands, then go on strike. My answer would be simple. Any teacher not in the classroom the next morning will be considered to have resigned. It’s long past time to break the teachers unions. I’m perfectly fine with charging the head of the union with child abuse and neglect.
