Well that didn’t take long. Neil Young is back on Spotify

Good day all. About a month ago, Neil Young went on a tear regarding Joe Rogan’s podcast. Rogan had on an expert in the vaccines used for the Fauci bioweapon, and he was against the mandates. This set off the usual suspects, starting with the old communist fossil, Neil Young. He loudly demanded that Spotify boot Rogan from their platform or remove his music. Spotify was happy to pull Young’s music and send him on his way.

Young then tried to get other “artists” to also pull their music from Spotify. A few ancient has beens and some current never was’s did. The music world promptly yawned and continued listing to Rogan and other artists who actually produce things people want to hear. Now it seems that Young’s music has been relisted on Spotify. Here are the details from Fox Business:

Neil Young’s music has quietly returned to Spotify after the rocker announced last month that he was removing his catalog from the streaming platform.

Reps for Young, as well as Spotify, didn’t immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment. A spokesperson from Warner Bros. Records told FOX Business “no comment or statement.”

I have been given to understand that Neil Young doesn’t actually own the rights to his music, and that another company controls them. There was some question on whether Young had bothered to check with them before going on his anti-free speech tirade.

Last month, the veteran star fired off a public missive to his management, demanding that they remove his music from Spotify in protest of Rogan, 54, spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine on his popular podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

Spotify’s reply to Neil Young was simple, straightforward and easy to understand.

But the letter soon disappeared from view on Young’s website and fans were still able to hear “Heart of Gold,” “Rockin’ in the Free World” and other Young hits. According to Young’s home page, he had more than six million monthly listeners.

I wonder what the actual count from Spotify is? I seem to recall reading somewhere that Young isn’t anywhere near as popular as Joe Rogan In fact Spotify recently closed a deal with Rogan to the tune of $100 million dollars. I suspect that is a tune that Young wishes he could sing.

The fox Business story doesn’t go into any real details on how or why Young’s music was put back on Spotify. It does review what happened and the decisions regarding keeping Rogan, who makes Spotify a bunch-a-ton of money and removing Neil Young who doesn’t.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Young’s people crawled on their knees and begged Spotify to put Young back on their platform. I’m sure that, low as his numbers are compared to Rogan’s, his tantrum cost him a big chunk of change. Since I don’t subscribe to Spotify, I don’t listen to Rogan and don’t care to listen to Young. I’m just enjoying the Schadenboner.
