Good day all. As the Russian invasion of the Ukraine continues, and the Ukrainians continue putting up a tough resistance, things aren’t looking to good for Vladimir Putin. The Russians are taking far heavier losses then they anticipated and have yet to achieve their major objectives. Now Putin has announced that the Russian nuclear forces are on “High Alert.”
Since the start of the war, people have been wondering what the heck is going on with Putin. Most have assumed that he’s interested in rebuilding the Russian/Soviet empire. The Russian forces are showing the world that they aren’t the first line force people assumed they were. Putin had to know there would be issues.
He has also been issuing threats against both Finland and Sweden, telling them that if they even think of joining NATO, he will invade them. (The last time Russia invaded Finland, the only reason they had any success is that the Finns basically had fewer bullets then the Soviets had cannon fodder) As for NATO, other than moving forces into NATO countries, they have shown no inclination to send troops into the Ukraine. Because of this, people are wondering what is possessing Putin to increase the alert level of the Russian nuclear forces. Here are some of the details from NBC News:
President Vladimir Putin on Sunday ordered his military’s nuclear deterrent forces to be on alert as international tensions over Russia’s four-day-old invasion of Ukraine spiraled.
Putin said in a meeting of top officials shown on state TV on Sunday that the move, which means the country’s nuclear weapons are prepared for increased readiness to launch, was in response to NATO powers making what he called “aggressive statements.”
By “Aggressive Statements” he means that everyone is telling him he is a moron and are cheering on the Ukrainians?
Russia, like the United States and NATO forces, has thousands of nuclear warheads that it maintains as a deterrent to an attack.
And ours will probably work. We actually maintain our weapons. Still, to my knowledge, the United States had not escalated our nuclear alert levels due to the Russians invading the Ukraine.
The move is also a reaction to the West announcing hard-hitting financial sanctions against Russian businesses and key individuals, including Putin himself, the president said in televised comments.
Those “Hard hitting” sanctions appear to be more symbolic than actually damaging. The senile idiot in the Oval Office is not stopping oil imports from Russia. Imports made necessary by Dementia Joe’s killing the KeystoneXL pipeline, which would have covered the entire amount of oil we’re now getting from Russia.
The Russian defense minister, Sergey Shoygu, and the chief of the military’s general staff have been ordered to put the nuclear deterrent forces in a what was described as a “special regime of combat duty.”
That sounds like he was caught by surprise by the order as well.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, told NBC News’ Meet the Press on Sunday morning that “President Putin is continuing to escalate this war in a manner that is totally unacceptable.”
Most Americans have been very concerned with the mental stability of Joe Biden. They are worried that he would do something incredibly stupid and bumble us into a war. The joke was that Dementia Joe would accidentally hit the launch button when he was trying to order ice cream. (It’s very difficult for a president to initiate a first strike. The entire system is designed to be difficult. (I believe the Russians use a variation of our system)
No one thought that it would be Putin who may have gone round the bend. Most thought his move into the Ukraine was one of several possibilities, a big one being to keep the Ukraine from joining NATO. They had been angling to get in, but the NATO alliance has been generally pushing off the decision for a number of reasons, including putting western forces, in the minds of the Russians, to close to Moscow for comfort.
This would make sense considering the number of times Russia has been invaded from the West. (Napoleon, The Kaiser and Adolph Hitler) Still, this is no excuse for what Putin did and is currently doing. If he has lost his marbles, then he is a danger to Russia as well as the rest of the world. The Russians might want to consider retiring Putin. It might take a traditional 9×18 copper jacked lead retirement package to the cranium though. Then the new leaders will need to figure out how to get out of the mess he made. We shall see what happens.
