Good day all. The Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttplug, is considered by many to be an utter incompetent at the job, which, in the Bumbles Dementia maladministration, makes him the perfect choice. He demonstrated his level of competence by disappearing when cargo ships were stacked up outside of Los Angeles and unable to discharge their cargo.
Now that the airline industry is finally starting to recover after the virtual shutdown caused by the Panicdemic, more and more people are starting to travel again. The courts finally shooting down the mask mandates have also lowered the levels of frustration of people on planes. However, there are still issues with flights being canceled, and this is apparently what happened to Buttplug. Now he’s saying that he is going to force airlines to hire people. Here are the details from Fox News:
The federal government could take action against U.S. airlines on behalf of customers, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Saturday. Many Americans have endured delays, cancelations, and other travel complications during the coronavirus pandemic, and in recent months, after many pandemic-related travel restrictions were lifted.
Following Buttigieg’s own flight being canceled, forcing him to drive from Washington to New York, he said his department has authority to enforce action against airlines that do not sufficiently maintain consumer-protection standards, potentially requiring them to hire more staff.
That is debatable. They do have the ability, to some extent, to make sure there are enough people to maintain safety on aircraft. However, ordering an airline that is trying to actually recover financially to hire people it doesn’t actually need? I don’t think so Tim. What the airlines need and are having trouble finding, are pilots and others needed to keep planes in the air. These are not people you hire right off the street. Of course, Buttplug is an idiot and probably isn’t aware of this problem.
Buttigieg, a former Democratic presidential candidate, said his office would wait until it sees how airlines handle the influx of travel associated with summer and the Fourth of July holiday.
He also encouraged the executives to stress-test their travel capabilities to avoid another repeat of Memorial Day, which was riddled with flight disruptions. The executives agreed and said they would be taking steps to increase their service.
What does this idiot mean by “Stress Test” their capabilities? I suspect it’s a buzz word he picked up when Congress was using it on banks and other financial institutions after the 2008 financial collapse.
“Now we’re going to see how those steps measure up,” Buttigieg said Saturday.

Let’s see, what can cause flight delays or cancellations? Weather is a big one of course, but I suspect that Buttplug doesn’t think flying into a thunderstorm or dealing with severe turbulence is all that important. Another is just not having the flight crews available. There are a myriad of reasons for this.
Crews hit their mandatory rest periods and simply aren’t allowed to fly except in extreme emergencies. Others might have a family problem crop up that has to be dealt with. There might be a mechanical problem and they either don’t have the mechanics or parts on hand to quickly correct it, or it’s so severe the plane has to be pulled out of service, and they can’t get a replacement plane flown in.
Buttplug is just another incompetent idiot who is demonstrating the accuracy of the Peter Principle. Of course, Pete Buttplug hit his level of incompetence when he was promoted from dishwasher to hamburger flipper in high school. I suspect if he tries to do anything, the airlines will push back hard, up to and including just flat out shutting down, claiming safety concerns. We shall see of course.
