Will Kevin McCarthy be the next Speaker of the House?

Good day all. Now that the Republicans have managed to secure control of the House of Representatives, and sent San Fran Nan Pelosi into a well deserved oblivion, the next question is who will the new Speaker of the House be once the new Congress is sworn in?

Normally, it would be the current Minority leader, who is set to be the Republican Majority leader, Kevin McCarthy. However, he is having some problems securing the needed votes to ascend to the lofty position of Speaker of the House. Here are the details from the Washington Examiner:

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) bid to clinch the speaker’s gavel is at risk of falling apart due to insufficient support from his conference.

McCarthy launched his effort to be House speaker earlier this month in a closed-ballot vote by his conference. At the time, he only earned 188 of the 218 votes necessary to become speaker, with 31 votes going to his surprise challenger: House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-AZ).

Well, this is surprising. I don’t know much about Representative Biggs, and did a quick check. It appears he was first elected in 2016, and looks to be, per President* Bumbles Dementia Biden, one of those Ultra MAGA deplorable Republicans.

Biggs is one of the dozens of Republicans who have refused to support McCarthy’s speakership bid. That opposition, combined with a less-than-stellar turnout by Republicans in the 2022 midterm elections, is jeopardizing McCarthy’s chances of securing the gavel.

McCarthy is one of the squishy GOP(e) types and has been in the House since 2006, representing first Kalifornistan’s 22nd District, and with redistricting, now represents the 23rd District. Since he’s a Kalifornistan Republican, he’s more aligned with the Deep State and DC Swamp Dwellers then most of the Republican base. His actions over the last two years basically kowtowing to Pelosi among other things hasn’t won him many admirers. It appears that Rep. Biggs is one of those not admiring McCarthy.

“I cannot vote for Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker,” Biggs tweeted earlier this month after launching his bid for the gavel. “I do not believe he will ever get to 218 votes, and I refuse to assist him in his effort to get those votes.”

Other Republicans who oppose McCarthy include Reps. Ralph Norman (R-SC), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and Bob Good (R-VA). Norman argued Tuesday that McCarthy lost any chance to gain his favor when he rejected the Republican Study Committee’s seven-year plan for balancing the budget. The RSC is a highly influential group that makes up more than half of the GOP conference.

I have a vague recollection of that study, but no details. One of the major issues we have is the out of control spending by both Congress and the maladministration. Rejecting the plan that is designed to correct the problem speaks volumes regarding McCarthy’s desire to Make America Great Again or Save America from the Democrats. However, McCarthy does have his supporters of course, some of them surprising.

Some Republicans have been vocal about their support for McCarthy in his bid for House speaker, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Jim Jordan (R-OH).

Jim Jordan doesn’t really surprise me. Marjorie Taylor Greene does, considering that McCarthy did little to protect her when San Fran Nan booted her from her committee assignments for not bowing down to Pelosi and the Democrats. (Unlike McCarthy and a lot of the houseplants on the Republican side, MTG has a spine)

The floor vote for House speaker will be held on Jan. 3, just ahead of the start of the new Congress. While 218 votes equal a majority in the lower chamber, McCarthy only needs to win a majority of the votes from lawmakers on the floor. House rules state that if GOP lawmakers who do not support McCarthy’s bid simply vote “present,” the final number needed to win the majority is lowered — providing him a path to victory.

If that occurs, GOP members basically running away, we know where they stand on things and this should be brought up in the primaries in 2024. If you don’t have the political guts to vote yes or no, then you need to find another job, like cleaning out stables, since you seem adept at pitching shit all over the place.

Now, as to where I stand, I don’t trust Kevin McCarthy one bit. He’s making the right noises regarding what he will do once he’s the Speaker, but he has all but refused to consider the possibility of impeach President* Dementia Joe Biden, even though we’re seeing more and more evidence of both his mental degradation and his flat our corruption.

If evidence is produced that would stand up in a court of law, and gain a conviction, then McCarthy would have no options but to proceed, even if he doesn’t want to. If it is shown that Dementia Joe is mentally unfit for the office of President, then McCarthy will have to begin the processes to remove him, either through the 25th Amendment, convincing the Senile Pedophile that he needs to step down, or by impeaching him.

McCarthy doesn’t have the stones to do any of this, and this is just one of the many reasons he should not be Speaker of the House. I don’t know about Andy Biggs, but he does seem to have what it takes, and he hasn’t been in the House since the Sun ignited. Call your Representatives and let those worthless fools know where you stand. If your rep is a Democrat, well, you have my sympathies.
