Why I refer to Special Prosecutor Jack Smith as “Javert”

Good day all. I’m leading off with Please, if you agree with this post, share it all over the innerwebtubes. You may have noticed that in posts where I mention the special inquisitor unleashed on the Greatest President of the 21st Century, Donald Trump, I refer to him as “Javert” instead of his actual name, Jack.

There is a method to my madness….at least I hope there is. 🙂 In order to understand my name calling, you need to have some literary background. (You like to read books. Lots and lots of books of all types) Javert is a character from Victor Hugo’s novel Les Miserables. According to the Wikipedia entry, (Yes I know, but for things like this, it’s useful):

As Hugo depicts it, Javert’s misguided and self-destructive pursuit of justice is more tragic than villainous. He is “a compound” of “respect for authority and hatred of rebellion,” Hugo writes, “but he made them almost bad by dint of his exaggeration of them”. Reflective thought is “an uncommon thing for him, and singularly painful” because thought inevitably contains “a certain amount of internal rebellion.”

He is without vices, but upon occasion will take a pinch of snuff. His life is one “of privations, isolation, self-denial, and chastity—never any amusement”.

Javert has been described as a legalist: His “moral foundation… is built strictly on legalism”; he is “one of the most tragic legalists in Western literature” and “the consummate legalist”.

In the novel, Javert pursues Jean Valjean. There are many encounters between the two where Javert learns that Jean Valjean is both a criminal and a good man. In the end, Javert ends up drowning himself because he can’t reconcile the moral and legal issues.

The story is, of course, far more complex, but boils down to someone who will go to the ends of the earth to get someone he considers a criminal. However, Javert, unlike Jack Smith, isn’t making up crimes to go after Jean Valjean. Javert was obsessed with the law and catching law breakers. He also had a strong moral code. Jack Smith has neither.

Jack Smith has a history of politically charged prosecutions and abusing his authority to “Get” people who he perceives as enemies, regardless of whether or not they’ve actually done anything. Looking at his resume, one thing stands out. He was a prosecutor working in the Hague going after war crimes in Kosovo for several years. The United States does not recognize the “Authority” of the Hague Courts and this makes me wonder about what goes on inside the head of this individual.

Smith has gone after a number of high profile political figures. I believe his record is 2 wins and 8 losses, with one of those wins slapped down unanimously by the Supreme Court and the other a man pardoned by President Trump. (Which makes me wonder if there is yet another reason Javert Smith is going after President Trump, Revenge)

Smith is obsessed with “Getting Trump” and he doesn’t care if the law is on his side. He will make things up and he will lie to the court. He has been going after people who work for President Trump who, as far as I can tell, have done nothing. This obsession is why I am designating Jack Smith “Javert Smith.

I hope people will take this name and spread it far and wide. Just hash tag it #javertsmith. Short, sweet and easy to remember. Belittling this petty little thug is about all we can do legally. Perhaps Congress or the Supreme Court might actually do their jobs and shut this little twerp down.

Smith is obsessed with “Getting Trump” and he doesn’t care if the law is on his side.” He will make things up and he will lie to the court” just like the rest of the democrats and a handful of republicans.
