There is one thing Kalifornistan is Number 1 in Poverty

Good day all. The state once known as California was, for decades, the richest state in the Union. It was where people went to get rich. Then something bad happened. The democrats managed to institute their soviet dream of a single party state.

Now Kalifornistan is, for all intents and purposes, a third world failed state. It has become something that we haven’t seen in this country in centuries, if ever. A state separated by the Rich and the Poor. Now Kalifornistan is leading the nation in poverty. Here are the details from Breitbart:

The State of California still leads the United States in poverty, according to new U.S. Census data released Tuesday.

CalMatters.org reported:

The “supplemental” rates are calculated on three years of data and California has held the top spot for a number of years, almost entirely because of its extraordinarily high costs of housing, utilities, fuel and other consumer needs.

Nationally, the new supplemental rate is 9.8% but once again California tops the states at 13.2 percent, more than a third higher than the national rate.

The ultimate irony of California’s high poverty rate is that it’s a deep-blue state where all of the political power is held by left-leaning Democrats who profess to sympathize with the plight of the poor.

I reviewed the CalMatters story. It goes into great detail on the method used to determine Kalifornistan’s status as a poverty stricken wreck of a state.

Within the state, CalMatters.org notes, poverty is highest in the Los Angeles area, and lowest in the San Francisco area.

I have a suspicion that San Francisco’s poverty rate is climbing. The people with money are leaving the city as business close down and the homeless are allowed to set up anywhere they want. (I won’t bother with the crime issues)

The District of Columbia is the only jurisdiction with a higher supplemental poverty rate than California, at 14.8%, though it is not a state.

Washington D.C. is an odd duck. Of course, it’s also mismanaged by the Democrats, just like Kalifornistan. Unlike Kalifornistan, the Federal government can do something about it if they choose to.

As City Journal noted in 2018, “Unfortunately, California, with 12 percent of the American population, is home today to roughly one in three of the nation’s welfare recipients. The generous spending, then, has not only failed to decrease poverty; it actually seems to have made it worse.”

We have almost 60 years of data on how welfare does nothing to decrease poverty. The only time poverty decreases is when the able bodied are kicked off the welfare roles and forced to get a job. Surprise! With the exception of the truly lazy and stupid, the former recipients actually start doing pretty well for themselves.

The Census report also showed that the official, non-supplemental poverty rate in the U.S. was 11.5%, roughly unchanged since 2021, though the poverty rate for black Americans fell fom 19.3% to 17.0% from 2021 to 2022.

I’m going to question that number a bit. We saw unemployment in the so called minority community drop significantly under President Trump. Thanks to the lock-downs by the governors, it went back up. As states opened back up you saw the unemployment rate drop again as people were called back. Now the economy is heading into the crapper under the Worst President* in American History. We’ve also seen how the Democrats in the past have tried to use the Census department for their own political benefit. This might be another case.

As to the poverty rate in Kalifornistan, even the Democrats can’t hide the problem. It’s a result of the progressive policies of “Equality.” They want everyone equally poor, except those who run everything. Now Kalifornistan is running into a problem. They have more and more people coming in that want government handouts, most of them not legally in the United States, and they’ve run out of other people’s money. As the political idiots continue to virtue signal with other people’s money, the people with the money are leaving. I give Kalifornistan 10 years maximum before it completely implodes and collapses. That or the Big One hits and the state slides into the Pacific.
