Good day all. There is a saying that goes back almost 200 years. Modifying it a bit for the modern world, it goes something like this: “God or Nature made people tall, short, strong, weak, male or female. Mr. Colt made them all equal.”
This is the reason that a gun is sometimes called an “Equalizer.” A 50 year old 5’0” woman can use a gun to defend herself from a 6’4” 22 year old man who intends to do her harm and do so successfully. We’ve seen this time and time again, with women lawfully exercising their 2nd Amendment rights have stopped people trying to shoot up a group of people, protect themselves and their children from home invaders and recently a woman who was pregnant used her gun to protect herself and her husband.
It used to be that women were the biggest gun pushers of gun control, however that has started changing as reality has set in. If the need arises, the police won’t be there and you will need to protect yourself and your family. Now women are heading to the gun stores in droves and firearm training classes designed for women are being fully booked months out. Here are more details on this from Fox News:
It’s no secret. Across America, crime continues to ravage communities, putting the innocent on high alert as they wonder how they might fend off attackers should they make their move. But some women are stepping up to the challenge, fueling the demographic’s identity as a growing group arming up with guns across the nation,
“Women are the fastest-growing group of gun owners in America,” Jessica Milhans, a firearms instructor in Washington State, told FOX News earlier this year.
The claim is backed by data from Gallup showing the percentage of women who reported owning a gun rising from 15% in 2016 to 22% in 2022, the highest percentage since the organization began gathering data on the subject approximately 15 years ago.
I don’t need Gallup to tell me that more and more women have decided that the 2nd Amendment and having the means to protect themselves is a good thing. I see a lot of women at the local gun stores and firing ranges. Those who have been shooting for a while are damn good too.
Meanwhile, gun owners in blue states constantly grapple with possible restrictions, and in the case of California, new taxes; Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law doubling taxes on guns and ammunition on Tuesday to fund school safety.
Liberals, Progressives and Democrats, not that there is any difference between them, hate the 2nd Amendment and do not want people owning guns. The reason for this is simple and goes back to the foundations of this country. The 2nd Amendment was written so the people of this country would have the tools to remove a tyrannical government.
The Democrats have been the party of Slavery and more recently, Socialist totalitarianism for it’s entire existence. They know that they won’t be able to implement their plans for total control over the average person while that person has the means to say “No!” and the means to back it up. This is why you get idiotic remarks from leftists that “AR-15’s can’t stop F-15’s!” and “We have nuclear weapons!”
Why the change for women? FOX News Digital reached out to Cam Edwards, a Second Amendment enthusiast and editor at Bearing Arms for his take.
“I can tell you, just based on my conversations with firearm instructors, with retailers from around the country and just from what I’ve seen in the news, there definitely seems to be a growing interest among a lot of women,” he said Tuesday.
“And not just in the rural areas, In cities too, particularly those cities where we’re seeing high rates of violent crime. Women want to protect themselves just like everybody else. And more and more women are choosing to, you know, go get the training and become a gun owner.”
It’s not just basic safety classes and target practice women are engaging in. They are also going for more advanced classes on self defense and when to shoot and not shoot. It used to be that some people thought women would just panic and fire randomly, not aiming and possibly with their eyes closed. Something about them being “The weaker sex” and all. (A woman might not be as strong as a man, but she can damn well shoot as well as he can) Nowadays, when a criminal crosses paths with an armed woman, the odds are she’s going to be a bit shaken up and he will be on his way to the morgue.
“Every day we see these incidents where people are unable to protect themselves and the harm that befalls them. We also see these other incidents where people did have a gun. They were able to defend their lives or the lives of their loved ones, and I think that those stories resonate with people… [All gun owners] want the opportunity to fight back and protect the lives that we love.”
Thanks to the Progressive policies and actions by the Democrats, the United States is seeing a major uptick in crime, especially in Democrat controlled cities and states. Police have either been “Defunded” to the point they don’t have the manpower to handle the calls, or they have been so demoralized that they can’t be bothered or have quit.
You also have dozens of Soros DA’s who are willfully aiding and abetting the criminals. They are either releasing them on minimal charges or dropping charges altogether. People simply can’t rely on the legal system to actually do it’s job any longer.
Bill McLaughlin, spokesman for the National Rifle Association (NRA), also said the uptick in women’s firearm purchases stems from the desire to protect themselves and their loved ones, telling FOX News Digital it is a core component of the Second Amendment.
“Women are decisively stepping forward, underscored by a 77% increase in female gun ownership between 2005 and 2020, and the noteworthy rise in firearm purchases by Black women, recorded by 87% of gun stores in the first half of 2021. The NRA, with its network of over 120,000 NRA Instructors, remains ready and resolute to train any individual, woman or otherwise, in the responsible and effective use of firearms for self-defense,” he said in part.
Here is an interesting aside. We are also seeing women who a few years ago had never handled a gun now becoming certified instructors. Regarding the rise of black women buying guns? Great! The more the merrier. I always love how the Progressive Liberal Democrat Gun grabbers like to say that if black Americans start buying lots of guns, the Republicans and Conservatives would start demanding gun control. What actually happens is, “Hi! Nice gun. Want to go to the range?” (Tells you who the real racists are)
One firearms trainer, Calvin Wellington, spoke with local ABC 7 in the Washington, D.C. area, and offered a similar perspective, telling them the majority of people in his classes are now mostly women.
“The average woman that I get in my class is brand new to this. What is the change in their personality? Confidence, a lot of confidence. I have had women call me and thank me because when they walk out of their building to their car at night they are no longer scared,” he said.
One of the things I’ve read over the years, both from military drill instructors and now civilian instructors is how easy it is to teach women firearms safety and handling. Most of little to no experience with firearms and know what they don’t know. They listen to the instructors. Men tend to have some preconceived ideas that need to be drilled out of them.
After taking Mr. Wellington’s classes, or other instructors classes around the country, women who carry a firearm feel safer. They are in control, and with practice, both physical, (as in target shooting), to mental, (Preparing yourself if you ever have to use a firearm defensively), can drive off a criminal attacker. (Or arrange for them to move to Forest Lawn)
One in particular, Kennette Brown, said it erases the notion that women are defenseless.
“A lot of times men look at women, and they think we are defenseless,” she said. “They target us, first because they think we don’t carry. We can defend ourselves as women, we are not as weak as you think we are.”
The remarks also coincide numbers between July and Aug. 22 of this year which showed a number of women across the country had fended off assailants, including violent exes and criminals, using firearms.
I am firmly in favor of women having the tools and training they need to protect themselves, their children and their neighbors just as much as men. Men and women together, armed and prepared to thwart criminals has been a hallmark of America since before it’s founding. Even the old westerns had women reloading their husband’s guns when the wagon train came under attack, and on occasion, putting down an attacker themselves.
Then came Socialism, Communism, Progressivism, Hell a whole host of “isms” that has been working to strip good people, men and women, of the tools to defend themselves and others from the predators that the “Isms” have unleashed on the nation. And a note to those of the left who want to strip away people’s 2nd Amendment rights, Women vote too and all those nice, new female gun owners and carriers aren’t going to let you make them defenseless again.
