Spirit Airlines collapses and shuts down, murdered by Elizabeth Warren

Good day all. For the first time in 25 years, a major airline has gone bankrupt and shut down all operations. Spirit Airlines is now grounded and out of business.

I don’t generally follow the airline business. Occasionally I see something and note it. However, it’s becoming clear that Spirit Airlines may not have needed to close its doors. Here are some of the details from CNBC:

Spirit Airlines has shut down. Before dawn Saturday, April 3rd, the carrier ceased operations after failing to secure an agreement with bondholders on an 11th-hour bailout from the Trump administration.

There was a lot of discussion over President Trump’s offer to bail out Spirit, with many opposed to it. I include myself in this. However, it’s a moot point now.

That sealed the fate of the iconic U.S. budget airline known for its bright yellow planes, cheap fares and no-frills service and fees for everything else that had become a punchline though it had pioneered discount air travel in the U.S. and made flights more affordable for millions.

We regret to inform you that all Spirit Airlines flights have been canceled, effective immediately,” read a message when opening Spirit’s app.

I personally have never flown Spirit Airlines. I try to avoid flying if at all possible. As to why Spirit failed, there will be plenty of people dissecting the corpse to determine what went wrong. However, one major reason was Senator Elizabeth “Fauxahontas” Warren. A few years ago, Spirit’s management saw the writing on the wall and tried to merge with JetBlue.

The idea was that a merger between the two airlines would expand their coverage and save a number of jobs. Instead, Comrade Sitting Bullshit Warren decided that she knew how the airline business worked and pushed to block the merger. Here are those details from Fox Business News:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is under fire after Spirit Airlines abruptly shut down, with critics citing her claim that blocking a merger that could have saved the troubled carrier was “a Biden win for flyers.”

Spirit announced early Saturday it would cease operations immediately, canceling all flights and shutting down customer service, leaving many travelers stranded. The collapse is reigniting debate over whether federal regulators got it wrong in blocking a proposed JetBlue-Spirit merger, with opponents now arguing the decision may have reduced competition and contributed to the airline’s downfall.

“I’ve warned for months that a @JetBlue-@SpiritAirlines merger would have led to fewer flights and higher fares,” Warren wrote in a March 2024 post on X. “@JusticeATR and @USDOT were right to stand up for consumers and fight against runaway airline consolidation. This is a Biden win for flyers!”

I have a vague memory of the court battle cooked up by the Biden Maladministration. The entire Maladministration lied claimed that the merger would hurt competition.

The U.S. Department of Transportation, led by Secretary Pete Buttigieg, also backed the decision earlier in the process. In a 2023 statement, the agency said it “fully supports the Justice Department’s lawsuit… to block the proposed JetBlue-Spirit merger,” arguing the deal would “eliminat[e] the largest, most aggressive ultra-low-cost competitor” and “substantially reduc[e] competition.”

History has shown that anything Pete Buttplug was for was doomed to failure, and that was when he actually bothered to show up for work. Now with the shutdown of Spirit, there is less competition and fewer choices. As for Lie-a-watha Warren? She’s desperately trying to shift the blame onto anyone else, including President Trump. Here are those details from Just The News:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is receiving backlash from GOP lawmakers for pushing former President Biden’s Justice Department to block the merger of JetBlue and Spirit Airlines.

The 14,000 employees at Spirit who’ve lost their job loss, the travelers who will now pay higher fares, and the shareholders and debt holders who have been wiped out can thank Elizabeth Warren,” Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) wrote on X on Saturday. “Electing left politicians, who have ZERO business experience, has consequences.”

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz reposted a critical Warren post and wrote, “Stunning.”

Warren, for her part, is trying to shift the blame anywhere else. Including President Trump and his policies.

Warren defended her advocacy against the merger by blaming a federal judge for stopping it.

Spiking fuel prices from Trump’s war was the nail in the coffin for twice-bankrupted Spirit airline,” Warren wrote in a post on X. FWIW, JetBlue merger failed because a judge, appointed by Ronald Reagan, said the deal was illegal. Republicans are desperate to shift blame from higher costs hitting families.”

Would the case have even been brought in the first place if you hadn’t been running off at the mouth in the first place? In any case, I looked up the judge in question, U.S. District Judge William Young. He is currently retired and is serving as a Senior judge. (Frankly, if a judge retires, that’s it. No more cases for them) From what I can tell, he’s yet another “Republican” judge who “Grew in office.” In other words, he was just another deep state, big government RINO. (And yet another reason we need term limits on judges) I hope that idiot is happy that now almost 20,000 people are out of work.

Biden’s Justice Department had detailed its involvement in blocking the merger back in 2024.

Our win in court is a victory for U.S. travelers who deserve lower prices and better choices,” said Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division. “We fought this case to protect consumers who, as the court recognized, ‘otherwise would have no voice.’ I am incredibly proud of the Antitrust Division’s team and our state law enforcement partners’ tireless advocacy.”

The Antitrust division under Biden and Garland, along with the Federal Trade Commission under Linda Khan, was arguably one of the most anti-business departments since at least Roosevelt. (Either one, it doesn’t matter that much) The FTC was even worse under Khan. I will say that Bondi did clean out that mess fairly well and Khan was quickly sent on her way by President Trump. As for Senator Big Chief Sitting Bullshit?

Warren had pushed the Department of Transportation under Biden to work to block the merger, as detailed in a letter she wrote.

She also applauded the blockage of the merger.

“I’ve warned for months that a  @JetBlue – @SpiritAirlines  merger would have led to fewer flights and higher fares. @JusticeATR  and @USDOT were right to stand up for consumers and fight against runaway airline consolidation,” she wrote on X. “This is a Biden win for flyers!”

Warren, of course, is about as consistent as any Progressive Liberal Communist. After the merger was blocked, which would have created five major airlines, she came out and blasted the other airlines.

In late April of this year, Warren wrote on X that the “Big Four airlines (American, Delta, Southwest, United) control 75% of the U.S. market. Fewer choices = higher prices for you.”

Now Spirit is dead and the other airlines, including JetBlue are swooping in to pick over the carcass. JetbBue is offering to honor Spirit ticket holders and they are also offering to help out former spirit employees. All of the Spirit assets are going to be sold off of course and that includes their routes and airport terminals and gate spaces. There are also all the planes, spare parts, and other assorted pieces of equipment that that will be coming on the market at fire sale prices.

A lot of the Spirit people now out of work will probably be picked up by the other airlines as they’re now going to be expanding. Sadly, not all of them are going to land on their feet. Frankly, I want to see a few hundred of these people picketing in front of Warren’s homes in Massachusetts, where ever she lives in Washington and every single one of her offices. The signs can say one very simple thing.

I lost my job thanks to Senator Elizabeth “Big Chief Lying Red Feather” Warren of the People’s Slapahoe Collective of Massachusetts.

She deserves to be raked over the coals for the next few years.
