A tale of three eulogies

Good day all. Over the weekend, news came out that the murderous Cuban tyrant, Fidel Castro had finally kicked the bucket. In Little Havana, the partying began almost immediately and is continuing.

World leaders have also been commenting on the untimely demise of Castro. (Untimely in the sense he should have croaked back in 1960) The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has managed to utterly disgrace himself with the following remarks. (H/T to the Toronto Sun)

It was with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest-serving president,” Trudeau said. “Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century.

A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation.

While a controversial figure,” said Trudeau, “both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for ‘el Comandante.’” For a supposed world leader, this is revisionist history at its worst, and therefore shameful.

Trudeau has been, and continues to be, unmercifully trolled over his remarks. For instance, the “Great and All Powerful Emperor of the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler, Misha the First, did a little rewrite on Trudeau’s remarks.

It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Germany’s Chancellor.

Adolf Hitler was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost a decade and a half. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Hitler made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his nation.

While a controversial figure, both Mr. Hitler’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the German people who had a deep and lasting affection for “der Führer”.

I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Adolf when my father passed away. It was also a real honour to meet his lovely wife, Eva Braun, during my recent visit to Germany.

On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Hitler. We join the people of Germany today in mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”

Then we have our own blithering idiot, Barack Obama.

At this time of Fidel Castro’s passing, we extend a hand of friendship to the Cuban people. We know that this moment fills Cubans – in Cuba and in the United States – with powerful emotions, recalling the countless ways in which Fidel Castro altered the course of individual lives, families, and of the Cuban nation. History will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him.

For nearly six decades, the relationship between the United States and Cuba was marked by discord and profound political disagreements. During my presidency, we have worked hard to put the past behind us, pursuing a future in which the relationship between our two countries is defined not by our differences but by the many things that we share as neighbors and friends – bonds of family, culture, commerce, and common humanity. This engagement includes the contributions of Cuban Americans, who have done so much for our country and who care deeply about their loved ones in Cuba.

Today, we offer condolences to Fidel Castro’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Cuban people. In the days ahead, they will recall the past and also look to the future. As they do, the Cuban people must know that they have a friend and partner in the United States of America.

Is it January 20th 2017 yet? No? Damn! Speaking of which, President-Elect Trump also remarked on the passing of Fidel Castro. (From the Communist News Network)

President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter initially on Saturday to react in only four words to Fidel Castro’s death before issuing a longer statement condemning the “brutal dictator” and yearning for a free Cuba.

Fidel Castro is dead!

President-Elect Trump then followed up with a more formal statement.

“Today, the world marks the passing of a brutal dictator who oppressed his own people for nearly six decades,” Trump said in a statement issued a couple of hours after his tweet.

“Fidel Castro’s legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights. While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve.”

Donald Trump

During the campaign, Donald Trump said he would revoke the Executive order issued by Obama regarding Cuba. Since Castro is in the process of becoming mulch, I would expect Trump’s team are looking things over and reworking their policies towards Cuba. All that’s left there is Raul Castro and he isn’t long for this Earth either, and has, allegedly, stepped aside. Hopefully, things will take a turn fro the better for the Cuban people in the next few years.

Your Obama Derangement Syndrome is showing. He didn’t say anything objectionable or not true. He most carefully did not say anything judgemental.
Would it have been better if he had called Castro a murderous tyrant? Yes, it would, but at least he refrained from any actual praise.
