Good day all. Last week a Kalifornistan judge ruled that coffee causes cancer. The fact that science says it doesn’t wasn’t considered apparently. Now, thanks to Kalifornistan Superior court judge Elihu Berle, if you want coffee, it will have to have a cancer warning on it like cigarettes.

The case was brought by a bunch of shysters from the Metzger Law Group. They came up with some flat out junk science and conned the judge into declaring coffee to a carcinogen. Here are some of the details from Fox News:
Superior Court Judge Elihu Berle said in a proposed decision Wednesday that Starbucks and other coffee companies failed to prove the threat from a chemical compound produced during coffee roasting was insignificant.
And what is this compound he speaks of?
The chemical, acrylamide, is a carcinogen created when coffee beans are roasted. The carcinogen is one in a list of chemicals the state of California considers possible causes of cancer. Alcoholic beverages are also on the list.

In Kalifornistan, EVERYTHING is considered a carcinogen. However, I do believe there is an ulterior motive here, and it’s the all mighty dollar. According to CBS News:
If the ruling stands, it could come with a stiff financial penalty and could rattle consumers beyond state lines. The judge can set another phase of trial to consider potential civil penalties up to $2,500 per person exposed each day over eight years. That could be an astronomical sum in a state with close to 40 million residents, though such a massive fine is unlikely.
If that penalty were to be imposed, it would be in the 10’s of billions of dollars and most of it would go to the lawyers. Hmm, makes one wonder, doesn’t it? Why do I see another “Chevron Shakedown” coming? For those of you who may not recall, a bunch of lawyers tried sued Chevron claiming they polluted the Amazon or something.

The plan was to basically force a settlement. The problem for the lawyers is that Chevron had done nothing wrong in the first place, so they decided to fight the lawsuit. In the end, after something like 6+ years, it was discovered that the lawyers who started this had bribed judges, rigged evidence and basically were involved in a criminal extortion. The entire case detonated in their faces and the “survivors” were forced to compensate Chevron for their expenses. I believe a few lawyers were also disbarred and a South American judge or two ended up in prison.

If this is what those lawyers are planning, they are going to have a lot of trouble coming at them. To begin with, real scientists are throwing copious amounts of cold water on their claims of “Dangerous compounds, Here are some of those details from Fox News:
A California court judge’s ruling ordering coffee companies to put cancer warning labels on their products is not changing the minds of scientists and health professionals who say there is no credible evidence to warrant the dramatic move.
Some say that despite any well-meaning intention that may have prompted the ruling by Superior Court Judge Elihu Berle on Wednesday, it could end up unnecessarily confusing and even frightening people.
Many studies tying a chemical, acrylamide – which is formed when coffee beans are roasted – to cancer were conducted using animals who were given quantities much larger than a human would consume, J. Leonard Lichtenfeld, the deputy chief medical officer for the American Cancer Society, told Fox News.
“The substance is present in many of our foods, not just coffee,” said Lichtenfeld, who has worked in oncology for decades. “There was a minor scare about it being in French fries, and foods that are cooked in higher temperatures. Demonstrating a direct cause to cancer is very difficult. You always have to put a [suspected] risk into perspective.”
Usually, such links are found when feeding small laboratory rats the equivalent of 5 gallons of this stuff per day.
I’m going to come right back and say we have other areas we need to put more attention to,” he said. “Smoking and obesity are some of those [risky] areas.”
Yeah, let’s regulate that!! It’s for the children after all and we specialists know better then the peons.
The coffee industry had claimed the chemical was present at harmless levels and should be exempt from the law because it results naturally from the cooking process necessary to make the beans flavorful.
From what I understand, the levels require a high end laboratory to find it.
The ruling came despite eased concerns in recent years about the possible dangers of coffee, with some studies finding health benefits.
Because the judge is either an idiot or has been bought and paid for. I would prefer the former.
In 2016, the International Agency for Research on Cancer — the cancer agency of the World Health Organization — moved coffee off its “possible carcinogen” list.
Yeah, this is smelling more and more like a shakedown.
Studies indicate coffee is unlikely to cause breast, prostate or pancreatic cancer, and it seems to lower the risks for liver and uterine cancers, the agency said. Evidence is inadequate to determine its effect on dozens of other cancer types.
Coffee is connected to cancer development by the fact that coffee is sometimes drunk by living people and only living people develop cancer,” said Robert A. Weinberg, an oncologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to The Los Angeles Times.
So dead people and zombies don’t get cancer? Who would have guessed?
Kathryn M. Wilson, a cancer epidemiologist at Harvard University who has studied the impact of acrylamide on human, told the newspaper: “I think the evidence that acrylamide makes a difference for human cancer risk is pretty weak…It’s a lot more helpful to look at coffee as a food.”
She noted, for instance, that coffee is a source of antioxidants, and has been shown in credible studies to have significant benefits, such as reducing the likelihood of liver cancer and Type 2 diabetes.
So, not only is it highly unlikely that coffee causes cancer, it might actually help prevent it? Well then, put another pot on! Anyway, I have no doubt this will be appealed. The damage that would be done by these scumbag lawyers is so extreme, that it would have major economic, not to mention military repercussions. Just think, soldiers, sailors marines and aircrews would be denied coffee. No coffee means they fall asleep. Why we could lose a war! That’s it! Have the judge and all the lawyers from that group arrested and put on trial! The charge? Treason!! They are actively sabotaging everything in America!!
