Good day all. As you are no doubt aware, the Progressives, Liberals, Democrats, (As if there’s any difference), have been working to end private ownership of guns. They are now looking at repealing one of the Bill of Rights amendments, the 2nd.
Of course, they have an agency in mind to handle all the paperwork and no doubt, confiscations they have in mind. This is the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. (BATFE) This is the agency the Progressives created in 1972 to restrict the 2nd Amendment. Yes, their “mandate” also covers Tobacco and Alcohol, (Which are mentioned in the Constitution), but their primary role has always been “Getting the guns out of the peons hands.” However, this agency has had a large number of issues over the decades. One of these is their ability to keep records. Here are some of the details from The Washington Times:
The ATF’s inadequate record-keeping policies creates a risk of ammunition, explosives and less-lethal devices such as smoke canisters being lost or stolen without the bureau knowing, according to a report released Monday by the Justice Department’s inspector general.
In fact, the poor record-keeping has already resulted in 23 firearms issued to agents being either lost or stolen between 2014 and 2017, the inspector general reported.
A total of 26 weapons were reported lost, stolen or missing, although three of them disappeared during shipment and thus were not the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives‘ fault, the inspector general said. One of those three weapons was used in a crime.
Of the 26 missing firearms, 15 would eventually be recovered, according to the report.
So there are 11 weapons still out their? I’m guessing they were shipped to Mexico as part of the BATFE’s Operation Fast&Furious fiasco.
However, that number of guns lost during that three-year period actually represents a “substantial improvement” over what a similar report uncovered in 2008, said Michael Horowitz, the Justice Department’s inspector-general.”

The ATF field offices surveyed were not following ammunition storage protocols, the report said. Specifically, six ATF locations were missing ammunition records from periods ranging between 15 and 38 months over the past four years. The Nashville field office did not begin using the required ammunition records until OIG investigators asked for copies before their site visit.
Furthermore, 11 of the 13 ATF sites audited found that officials had not consistently documented additions or withdrawals on ammunition records. For example, the Cheyenne, Wyoming, office cataloged 1,800 rounds of 5.56-caliber rifle ammunition on July 7, 2014. The next entry, dated Oct. 1, 2014, shows a balance of 900 rounds, but no records documented what happened to the other 900 rounds of ammunition.
I suspect the ammunition was probably fired on a range, but the agents didn’t bother recording it. That, or they took it home for their own use, or sold it on Ebay or something.
The inspector general blamed the inventory discrepancy on misinterpretation of ATF policy. For example, field office officials said some of the inventory discrepancies occurred because the ATF requires offices to only account for full cases of ammunition. Thus, once a case is opened, the entire case is removed from the records regardless of how many rounds are in that case. But the inspector general said the requirement to count full cases of ammunition applies only to biannual ATF-wide property inventories.
I know people who are either active duty military or recent service. What they need to go through to requisition ammunition for training purposes is instructive. As I understand it, every single round has to be accounted for. I don’t know what the military inventory policies are for combat zones, but I suspect they still need to sign for it.
Now, the gun grabbers out there think that the Government is the only group that can be trusted with firearms and ammunition. As the Inspector General’s report shows, they can’t be trusted to handle pencils and paperclips. As an agency, they have a long track record of screwing up and violating the Constitution and the rights of people who own firearms.
Years ago, there was a report of just how abusive of their authority BATFE agents can be. An agent was conducting an inspection of a gun store, and while handling a rifle, accidentally waved the muzzle across the store owner. He instinctively pushed the muzzle away and towards a safe direction. He didn’t think much of it since this does happen at times.
However, the agent took offense and the BATFE raided the store and arrested the owner for “Assaulting a federal agent.” However, there was just one small problem. The shop had surveillance cameras and they caught the whole thing on video. It showed that the agent was not only incompetent in handling firearms, but was a liar as well. The charges were dropped of course. The Agent? She was promoted.
I can go into all the other BATFE fiascoes, and have in other postings. The most egregious, of course, was the raid on the Branch Dividians. That has been well covered and I don’t need to go into it heere. More recently, as I mentioned earlier, there was the Obama/Holder disaster called Operation Fast&Furious. This was the brilliant idea to let guns “Walk” into Mexico. That has cost the lives of hundreds of Mexicans and a Federal Agent. It turned out the plan was to use this to further restrict the 2nd Amendment rights of Americans.

It’s long past time to abolish the BATFE. However, the Progressives and other swamp dwellers of the Deep State will never allow it. Their goal is the eventual disarming of the American People.
