Good day all. It looks like there may be some interesting times this weekend in Portland, Oregon. When I say “Interesting times” I mean that in the sense of the Chinese course, “May you live in interesting times.”
Why is this going to be an interesting weekend? The Antifa thugs and the conservative groups are going to be “Protesting” again. It appears that this time, the conservative groups are not going to back down. Here are some of the details from Fox News:
Portland, Oregon, is bracing for what could be another round of violent clashes between a right-wing group and self-described anti-fascist counterprotesters who have pledged to keep Patriot Prayer and other affiliated groups out of this ultra-liberal city.
A rally organized Saturday by Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson was expected to be the third to roil Portland this summer. Two previous events ended in bloody fistfights and riots, and one counterprotester was sent to the hospital with a skull fracture.
What is missing here is which side started the violence. In both cases, the Antifa thugs came loaded for bear and attacked the Patriot Prayer group. As for the police? They were actively aiding the Antifa thugs instead of remaining neutral and trying to keep the peace. Now, the conservative groups have had it with the Facists of the Antifa movement.
This time, Gibson changed the venue from a federal plaza outside U.S. District Court to a waterfront park so some of his Oregon supporters can carry concealed weapons as they demonstrate. Chartered buses will bring participants from Vancouver, Washington — where Gibson lives — to downtown Portland with armed security on board.
Of course, the Portland PD will be sweeping the crowd for weapons. They will confiscate any not belonging to the Antifa group.
Gibson’s insistence on bringing his right-wing supporters repeatedly to this blue city has crystallized a debate about the limits of free speech in an era of stark political division. Patriot Prayer also has held rallies in many other cities around the U.S. West, including Berkeley, California, that have drawn violent reactions.
And this statement shows why the Mostly Stupid Media can no longer be trusted. While this story is on Fox News. It originated with Associated (With Terrorists) Press. They are firmly in the “Ban any speech we don’t approve of!” camp. (Fox really should have edited this copy, or noted in greater detail that it wasn’t originating from them)
A coalition of community organizations and a group representing more than 50 tribes warned of the potential for even greater violence than previous rallies if participants carry guns. It called on officials to denounce what it called “the racist and sexist violence of Patriot Prayer and Proud Boys” and protect the city.
And their answer is to suppress the 1st amendment rights of a group they hate.
Portland police say they will be checking for weapons to ensure anyone who is armed has an Oregon concealed handgun license.
Oh I think we can count on those carrying to have the proper paperwork. I wouldn’t be surprised if the organizers double check everyone before busing them in.
Gibson, who is running a long-shot campaign to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington state, said in a live video on Facebook earlier this week that he won’t stop bringing his followers to Portland until they can express their right-wing views without interference.
“I refuse to do what Portland wants me to do because what Portland wants me to do is to shut up and never show up again. So yeah, I refuse to do that, but I will not stop going in, and I will not stop pushing, and I will not stop marching until the people of Portland realize that and realize that their methods do not work,” he said.
First, I really don’t know very much about the Patriot Prayer group. What I do know is I can’t trust any reporting on them by most of the media. Second, Mr. Gibson has provided a way to keep him from coming back. Let him and the others speak their piece. However, the “Ever so tolerant Progressive Left” is utterly intolerant to any ideas that they don’t support. Those ideas and the people espousing them must be suppressed and the people promoting those ideas, jailed or killed. Tell me how acting like Fascist thugs is anti-fascist again?
A broader counterprotest organized by a coalition of labor unions, immigrant rights groups and artists also will gather at City Hall before the Patriot Prayer rally.
Organizers say that while Patriot Prayer denies being a white supremacist group, it affiliates itself with known white supremacists, white nationalists and neo-Nazi gangs.
Would you be so kind as to provide actual evidence of this? I hate Nazis, and have no use for White Supremacists, however, I haven’t seen any real indications that the Patriot Prayer group supports them. Oh I have no doubt there might be some individuals espousing that load of crap, but what evidence is there that this is the beliefs of the organization? Don’t worry, I can wait.
“Patriot Prayer is continuing to commit violence in our city, and their events are becoming more and more violent,” said Effie Baum of Pop Mob, a coalition of community groups organizing the counterdemonstration. “Leaving them a small group to attack in the streets is only going to allow them to perpetuate their violence.”
Funny, all the videos I’ve seen since the “Antifa” groups appeared showed them initiating the violence, not a victim of it. It’s your side that wears the masks to hide their identity. It’s your side that assaults people for saying things you don’t like.
Your actions are very familiar to people who have studied history. Have you ever heard of a group called the Sturmabteilung? These were real Nazis and they used to do exactly the same things you do. It’s almost as if someone read a copy of their playbook.
This time, things are going to come to a head. If the ever so tolerant left pulls their usual stunts and attacks the Patriot Prayer group, they’re going to run into some serious trouble. People who have CCW permits generally go through training, one major part of which, is when you can and can’t use deadly force.
They way I see it, if attacked, the people carrying will move to the front and put themselves between the Antifa’s intended targets and the Antifa thugs. (Something the Portland PD should be doing) I suspect that they will back down slowly while leaving their guns holstered. (Possibly exposed so the thugs will see what awaits them) However, as soon as the Fascists from Antifa start beating on people, those guns are coming out and there won’t be any warning shots.
If that happens, it’s game over. If the police start firing on the Patriot Prayer crowd, who would be in the process of protecting themselves and others from a rampaging mob of thugs, considering the past history of the Portland PD basically backing the Antifa thugs, it’s very possible that they could be facing a full blown shooting war with the Prayer Patriots who stayed outside breaking out far heavier weapons.
That could be the start of “Interesting times.” The worst case scenario would be mass casualties on all sides and the police being driven off, possibly wiped out. After that, who knows? It could lead to the one thing most people have dreaded.
Now if the Antifa scum and the Portland city government want things to remain peaceful, the easiest way would be to just leave the conservative speakers alone. Let them speak their minds. Who knows? You might find out that you’ve been wrong about them. Just remember, “Sticks and stones will break your bones, but words will never hurt you.
