Good day all. Shortly after the China Virus started moving around the globe, panicking all and sundry, French doctors discovered that old style anti-malarial drugs seemed to greatly reduce the symptoms and help those who were in dire straits recover.
Shortly afterwords, President Trump mentioned this and asked doctors to investigate if this would be beneficial to the patients. Many doctors started looking into this and the anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that the drugs do work. This has led to certain Democrat governors banning the use of these drugs by executive order for the purpose of aiding Wuhan Flu patients.
Not one of these governors, (Steve Sisolok, Nevada, Andrew Cuomo, NY, and Gretchen Wittmer, Michigan), has any training in biology or medical science. The only reason they’ve banned doctors from prescribing these medications was pure politics. It made President Trump look good.
The blow-back started almost immediately. Now Michigan’s Moonbat governor has changed her mind and is now allowing doctors to prescribe and pharmacies to supply the drugs in question. Here are the details from Fox News:
Michigan, this week, requested hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine from the Strategic National Stockpile for physicians to use to help treat patients with COVID-19, after the Food and Drug Administration over the weekend granted an emergency use authorization for the anti-malarial drugs.
But last week, Whitmer’s administration threatened physicians prescribing the drugs, saying they were subject to “administrative action” should they continue to use the medication.
“The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has received multiple allegations of Michigan physicians inappropriately prescribing hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine to themselves, family, friends, and/or coworkers without a legitimate medical purpose,” Deb Gagliardi, the director of the Bureau of Professional Licensing, and Forrest Pasanski, the director of the Enforcement Division, wrote in a letter to “licensed prescribers and dispensers.”
“Prescribing hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine without further proof of efficacy for treating COVID-19 or with the intent to stockpile the drug may create a shortage” for those patients who need the drug for its approved use, adding that “reports of this conduct will be evaluated and may be further investigated for administrative action.
“Again, these drugs have not been proven scientifically or medically to treat COVID-19.”
The blatant lies and outright threats towards doctors by the governor pretty much blew up spectacularly in her face. She was being accused of putting politics ahead of a potential life saving treatment. The lie that there would be “Stockpiling” was the excuse she used to try and cover her ass.
Of course there was no “Scientific testing” on the treatment. There simply hadn’t been any time and doctors were trying everything in their pharmacy. The early results were enough for other doctors around the world to continue trying the medications, and as we have seen, the results in many cases have been spectacular. This has been a problem for the Democratic CommuNazi governors such as Whitmer. Now they could be held liable, potentially in a criminal case. She’s “seen the light” and reversed course.
Michigan reversed course, requesting a supply of the medications for physicians to use in treating patients of COIVD-19, after the Department of Health and Human Services received and accepted donations of the medications to the national stockpile to be used for coronavirus treatment.
“President Trump is taking every possible step to protect Americans from the coronavirus and provide them with hope,” HHS Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement. “Scientists in America and around the world have identified multiple potential therapeutics for COVID-19, including chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.”
Not being a scientist, I can only go by what I’ve been reading in actual news sites, as opposed to the propaganda put out by the American Mostly Stupid Media. It seems that these drugs, with a bit of zinc, really mess up the China Virus. Patients have seen incredible changes in hours, with many who were on death’s door being sent home to complete their recovery in a few days.
He added: “The President’s bold leadership and the hard work of FDA and HHS’s Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response have succeeded in securing this large donation of medicine. We’ll continue working around the clock to get American patients access to therapeutics that may help them battle COVID-19, while building the evidence to evaluate which options are effective.”
As I understand it, these drugs have been around for decades. Doctors know just how much to prescribe to not hurt the patients. I also understand that they hand these drugs out all over the place in Africa and other regions around the world as a preventive measure in regards to malaria. An interesting anecdote, those areas are not seeing a lot of Wuhan Flu cases.
“Anecdotal reports suggest that these drugs may offer some benefit in the treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients,” HHS said in a statement. “Clinical trials are needed to provide scientific evidence that these treatments are effective.”
Well, the best trials have been dosing patients who are really sick and seeing what happens. Is this a 100% effective treatment? I would be surprised if it was. But if 50% or more of really sick patients recover, then it’s worth it. (I think the rate is quite a bit higher)
Meanwhile, Whitmer, who has been a fierce critic of the president, said last week that states are being forced to bid with one another for personal protective equipment (PPE) and, in some cases, contracts in place have been set aside, delayed or canceled and the goods are instead going to the federal government.
“We the states are trying to actively get every piece of PPE that we can. We’re bidding against one another and, in some cases, the federal government is taking priority,” she said.
What we’ve been discovering was how badly the previous administration, That would be Barack Obama and Joe Biden, screwed things up. We’re also seeing how other states being run by Progressive Liberal governors have screwed up. The stockpiles were used during the swine flu epidemic in 2009, and instead of replacing them, Obama and Biden used the money for Obamaphones and Fredo Cuomo wasted his resources on protecting illegal aliens. Kalifornistan had several “MASH” units ready to go that could have been used, but Governor Moonbeam scrapped them as well.
Whitmer has been mentioned as a potential VP choice for Joe Biden. Honestly, she’s going to have a lot of trouble just holding on to her job as Governor. Her threats against healthcare professionals is going to be used against her, both in her undoubtedly failed reelection bid and/or run as vice president with Joe the Gaffemaster Biden. At least she’s developed some semblance of a clue and released the drugs. I doubt she was interested in being tried for manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license if things had gone sideways.
