AOC wants to black out Puerto Rico

Good day all. Alexandria Occasional-Cortex can always be counted on to say something really stupid. If she didn’t, thousands of pundits would be starving for something to comment on. AOC must have noticed that commentary has moved away from her, because she’s started spouting off stupid ideas again.

This time she’s come up with the absolutely brilliant idea of shutting down 20% of Puerto Rico’s electricity generation capacity. Here are the details of her latest moronic idea from the Western Journal:

A proposal from Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York to close a coal-fired power plant on Puerto Rico has been denounced as “beyond devastating” to the people who actually live there. On Thursday, during a House Natural Resources Committee hearing, Ocasio-Cortez proposed closing AES Puerto Rico’s coal plant in Guayama, The Daily Wire reported.

AOC then demonstrates her training and experience in the Energy Generation sector with this gem:

The architect of the Green New Deal said closing the power plant would have little impact.

Now I want to debunk… ‘chicken little’ arguments on how, if we would close the coal plants, it would cause catastrophic effects for the energy supply on the island,” she said. “AES could close tomorrow while keeping the lights on and preventing price increases on the island.”

I used to work in the energy sector in a field called Demand/Response. The short version is, when an event was called by the ISO, (Independent System Operators ), we would contact customers who would shut down energy using systems a predetermined plan and then sell that extra available power back to the grid. It’s designed as an emergency measure. Shutting off 20% of a regions power generation capacity and you now have rolling blackouts.

Alex Epstein, founder of the for-profit think tank Center for Industrial Progress, pushed back, tweeting that Ocasio-Cortez’s brainstorm would bring a tsunami of misery for the people of the island.

I tried to convince her that this would be beyond devastating to the people of Puerto Rico,” he tweeted.

I don’t mean to pick on Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, but she tweeted that the infrastructure’s failures in Texas are quite literally what happens when you don’t pursue a Green New Deal. No — in fact, plenty of places around the world can deal with hot and cold when they have enough reliable, resilient electricity.

Go ahead and pick on her. She is a complete idiot who revels in her stupidity. She deserves everything that is going to land on her.

Texas defunded reliable, resilient electricity, including winterization, to pay tens of billions of dollars for unreliable solar and wind that don’t work when you need them the most,” Epstein said during the hearing, The Daily Wire reported.

As I recall, about 10 or so years ago. ERCOT went all in on the “Renewable” craze and shut down a number of older power plants, and replaced them with windmills and solar panels. If I recall correctly, when the deep freeze hit Texas last winter, they wanted to start up some of the decommissioned, (But still functional) plants, but were refused permission by the Maladministration.

Epstein said Ocasio-Cortez’s energy plan “would make Puerto Rico into truly a consistently third-world country.”

To Alexandria Occasion-Cortex, that’s a feature not a mistake. That’s her goal for the entire United States of America, reducing us to levels worse then what is happening in Venezuela.

“Energy is the industry that powers every other industry,” Epstein said. “The lower cost and more reliable energy is, the lower cost and more reliable everything is, and vice versa. I just want to stress that Puerto Rico’s energy situation is terrible, and one of the reasons I want to testify today is nobody is talking about that. They’re talking about ‘How do we maintain the status quo?’ The status quo is terrible in Puerto Rico.”

Alex Epstein then went into details on the reality of renewables and why they are generally a boondoggle. His remarks are quite extensive and I recommend reading them in the Western Journal article. The final remark is telling:

We should be telling Puerto Ricans to abandon this suicide pact. But many on this committee are telling them to almost immediately shut down their most reliable, resilient source of electricity — a coal plant, which survived Hurricane Maria and last year’s earthquakes, that provides 1/5 of Puerto Rican electricity,” he said.

Recently I wrote about how much Alexandria Occasional-Cortex must hate her gandmother. It was a bit tongue in cheek, but her claims about how her grandmother was living in substandard housing and it was “All Trump’s Fault!” blew up in her face. This idea of shutting down 1/5th of the electrical generating capacity of Puerto Rico shows that once again, AOC is fit only to make porn movies and serve drinks. She certainly isn’t fit to serve in the House of Representatives.
