Kalifornistan pulls back from the abyss…somewhat. Kills massive tax hike plan

Good day all. A couple of weeks ago I wrote abut a plan in Kalifornistan to double the taxes on everyone, ostensibly to pay for socialist (non)medical care. This plan would have all but collapsed the state economy once and for all as everyone pulled the plug and fled the state.

Well, it looks like someone had a sudden attack of sanity and the bill to create a “Single Payer Plan” has been pulled. Here are the details from Fox Business:

A bill that would have created a first-of-its-kind, universal health care system died in the California state legislature on Monday after progressive Democrats failed to secure the necessary support for the legislation.

Democratic Assemblyman Ash Kalra, the sponsor of Assembly Bill 1400, said he shelved the proposal to establish a government-funded, single-payer health care system after realizing he lacked the 41 votes needed for the bill to advance out of the Assembly– a defeat that comes after moderate Democrats sounded the alarm over the hefty $391 billion-a-year price tag.

“It became clear that we did not have the votes necessary for passage, and I decided the best course of action is to not put AB 1400 for a vote today,” Kalra said in a press release. “Although the bill did not pass the Assembly by today’s deadline, this is only a pause for the single-payer movement.”

Once again we have another Communist who both fails to listen to people when they tell him they don’t want this, and that it won’t work in the first place.

If the bill passed, California would have become the first state in the country to have a universal, single-payer health care system.

Of course, as they say, the devil is in the details. I haven’t gone through the bill of course, (I have a life after all), however the usual way these things work is restricting payments to health care professionals, (Doctors, nurses, etc), and denying care when the money runs out, which it always does. They will also ration care and flat out deny medical care to people the state deems unworthy to get it. Then there is the cost of this monstrosity.

One of the biggest obstacles is cost: A study of a 2017 proposal to establish single-payer health care in California found that it would cost about $331 billion, roughly $356 billion today when adjusted for inflation. California’s entire budget this year, by comparison, is $263 billion.

In order to fund the measure, lawmakers planned to pair the bill with a separate measure that would dramatically raise taxes on wealthy Californians and well-off corporations in the state.

In the eyes of the Communists in Sacramento, anyone who either has a job, or two nickels to rub together is “Rich.”

A recent analysis from the Tax Foundation, a non-partisan group that generally advocates for lower taxes, found that the proposed constitutional amendment would increase taxes by roughly $12,250 per household in order to fund the government-funded health care system. In all, the tax increases were designed to raise an additional $163 billion per year, which is more than California raised in total tax revenue any year before the pandemic.

And it wouldn’t be enough.

The proposal included three main revenue raisers, according to Jared Walczak, a fellow at the Tax Foundation: Higher income taxes on wealthy Americans, a payroll tax on certain employees’ wages for large companies, and a new gross receipts tax.

Currently, Kalifornistan is seeing a mass migration out of the state. One of the main reasons is the tax fattened hyenas in Sacramento who have been looting businesses and individuals for decades, and have finally pushed to far.

Walczak noted the proposed tax increases come as California grapples with a high number of residents who are leaving for red states with lower tax burdens. A separate Tax Foundation analysis based on Census Bureau data shows that California’s population actually declined 0.8% in 2021, even as states with lower taxes saw their populations increase.

“Practically doubling state taxes—even if the burden is partially offset through state-provided health coverage—could send taxpayers racing for the exits,” Walczak wrote.

Even the Big Tech Progressive companies such as Twitler, Goolag, Faceplant and others would have no choice but to pull out of Kalifornistan. Their shareholders would demand it. We’ve already seen some of the Silicon Valley founding companies pull the plug and move out of the state thanks to the taxes and regulations the moonbats keep adding.

Doubling the taxes on these companies and the “Rich,” would see even more pull out, or, in some cases, simply close their doors. This would start a vicious cycle. The politburo in Sacramento would see tax receipts drop, while costs of their soviet style single payer plan skyrocket.

This would force them to raise taxes even higher leading to more people and businesses leaving. Eventually the entire economy of Kalifornistan would flat out collapse. You can bet that the state would be looking at the rest of the country to bail them out. While the Progressive Ruling Elite might be ok with sticking the bill for the disaster on people in well run states such as Texas or Florida, the states and people in the rest of the country would not.

At best, Kalifornistan would be stripped of its statehood, broken up and the idiots who caused the mess either jailed or booted from the country. (I think a fair number would also be lynched) At worst, the State would be left with a population consisting of “Special People” who run, (into the ground), everything and who would be exempted from the taxes, the poor who can’t leave and illegal aliens looking for free stuff. In any case, Kalifornistan would be a dystopian nightmare right out of a novel. Thankfully, someone who can actually count saw what a disaster this would be and, at least for now, have pulled the plug on it.
