Uvalde police ignoring the first rule of holes, threaten mother who tried to rescue children

Good day all. I haven’t written much abut the horror that occurred at the school in Uvalde, Texas. The main reason is that there is so much still coming out. However, in a previous post, I mentioned a woman who tried to go into the school and rescue hers and other children.

That post was about Senator John Cornyn being a complete idiot regarding the competence of the local police. I mentioned the incident of the woman being handcuffed by law enforcement when she tried to storm the school when the police wouldn’t. Now, more information has come out and once again, law enforcement is digging a deeper hole for itself. Here are the details from the Post Millennial:

Uvalde mom Angeli Rose Gomez has been threatened with a probation violation by Uvalde police if she continues talking to media about the school shooting that claimed the lives of 21 people. The probation violation threat to Gomez centers around a decades old charge.

The article make no mention of what the charge was against Ms. Gomez. However, I don’t know of any probationary periods that last decades. Usually probation is given on minor first time offenses and is designed to allow someone to clean up their act. They also have an expiration date. I’ll let those with a legal background provide more details or corrections. That’s what the comments section is for after all.

According to CBS reporter Lilia Luciano, the threat comes as a response to Gomez’s criticism of the police response at Robb Elementary School. Gomez was handcuffed during the Uvalde school shooting while attempting to rescue her two children who were trapped inside.

Ms. Gomez, when she heard what was happening drove 40 miles to the school. I doubt she paid much attention to local speed laws in her drive to save her children. She wasn’t the only parent, and a few others were also attacked by law enforcement when they tried to do the job the police were to gutless to do.

Gomez was one of many parents who arrived after the shooter entered the school. It took roughly an hour before a Border Patrol Agent eventually breached and killed the gunman. Meanwhile, children bled out from wounds that could have been treated if they’d been reached by first responders earlier.

I hadn’t heard about this detail until I read this article. It’s one thing when someone is hit and killed almost instantly, but any trauma center doctor or nurse will tell you, if you get a patient to a hospital within an hour of the injury, their odds of surviving increase dramatically.

When Gomez arrived on scene, she was immediately handcuffed by a US Marshall who claimed she was disrupting their investigation. While cuffed, she observed other parents trying to breach the school and witnessed one father tackled to the ground and another pepper sprayed.

The level of incompetence and stupidity of the law enforcement community in this incident is amazing. It also is going to put officers at increasing risk if, or sadly, when something like this happens again. Parents will start showing up with their own guns, and if they see the police standing around with their thumbs up their collective asses, they’re going to go in on their own. If police try to stop them, they’re probably going to get shot by the parents.

Gomez eventually persuaded local Uvalde police to ask the Marshall to let her go. Upon being freed, she immediately ran into the school and successfully rescued her two children.

You don’t get between a mother and her kids in that situation. Ms. Gomez, being a good mother, charged straight into danger to rescue and protect her children. She and the other parents who tried to breech the school have more guts then the cowards with badges.

Gomez’s account is consistent with several other parents and witnesses. Further investigation has revealed Uvalde police failed to follow active shooter training they’d just completed. Uvalde chief Pete Arredondo, who instructed police to stand down while the shooter was in the school, failed to respond to a Texas Ranger probe into his department’s actions.

The Uvlade Police have put up a wall of noncooperation since it’s come out that they completely botched the whole thing and children died because of it. Ms. Gomez began giving interviews regarding what she saw, what happened to her and what she did, none of it putting the local police in a good light. This is when she was threatened by them to be quiet or else. Ms. Gomez sought a legal opinion regarding this threat.

Gomez reach out to a local judge who assured her she couldn’t be charged with a probation violation, or with obstruction of justice for doing media interviews.

Yes, there is this little thing called the 1st Amendment of the Constitution. You don’t lose those even if convicted of a major felony. Threatening someone who is taking you to task for your incompetence and cowardice is nothing short of police state tactics. Hopefully, Ms. Gomez will seek legal redress against the individuals who made the threats against her.
