And that’s all she wrote for Joe Manchin

Good day all. There has been question regarding Senator Joe Manchin, (D-West Virginia), on whether or not he would run for reelection next year. Well we have an answer now. He is not going to seek a third term.

Manchin is completing his second full term as Senator, (He won a special election to replace Robert Byrd when he finally kicked the bucket), and there was a great deal of speculation if he could win a third full term in the deeply red state. Frankly, the answer is no, and rather then be crushed at the polls, he decided to do a Romney and quit. Here are some of the details from CNN:

Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia will not run for reelection in 2024, the moderate Democrat announced on social media Thursday, a blow for his party’s chances to hold control of the Senate in next year’s election.

After months of deliberation and long conversation with my family, I believe, in my heart of hearts, that I have accomplished what I set out to do for West Virginia,” Manchin said in a message posted on social media. “I have made one of the toughest decisions of my life, and decided that I will not be running for reelection to United States Senate.”

I suspect the response from the voters in West Virginia will be something like this:

Manchin was able to con…vince the people in West Virginia that while he was a Democrat, he wasn’t one of “Those” Democrats. The problem was, he actually was one of “Those” Democrats and kept shafting his constituents. In the last few years, he has been voting mostly with the Democrat Party and following the instructions of UpChuck Schumer. Manchin’s constant screwing over of his state finally hit the breaking point and his poll numbers collapsed.

There was talk that he might run for President, either replacing the basket case we are currently falling down in the Oval Office as the Democrat nominee. However, the Democrats quickly shut that down. Then there was talk he might run as a third party candidate, probably on the No Name ticket. That was also a nonstarter. It finally sunk into his head that the fork had been stuck in and he was done.

As for his successor? It’s almost a certainty that the next senator from West Virginia will be a Republican. The Democrats were looking to primary Manchin, however that is no longer going to happen. What you will see is a fight for who can be the most Marxist in the primary, and whoever is the nominee will be crushed in the General election. As for Manchin, he claims he won’t be leaving politics. I wonder if he’s considered that Politics is leaving him.

  1. Jefferson Selvy says:

If you’re supposed to represent WVA and screw the coal industry, the state’s biggest single employer, you soon find you have no friends in the UMWA (good union democrats) or the mine owners (good big business republicans) and that’s pretty much the whole population.
