Democrats demanding Big Tech censor hurricane news

Good day all. In the last month, we have had two major hurricanes hit the United States. Of the two, Hurricane Helene will probably be considered the worst of the season, ranking with Katrina and Andrew. Sections of North Carolina are still waiting for FEMA to show up.

I won’t bother going over the levels of incredible incompetence that FEMA and the DHS has been inflicting on people in Florida, North Carolina and other areas hit bu the storms. Many people have been doing just that. This is brings us to the jist of this post. Because it is a Democrat administration that is, to be blunt, fucking up by the numbers, the Democrats in Congress are demanding that Big Tech censor and suppress anything that they, the Democrats, consider to be misinformation. Here are the details from Newsmax:

House Democrats in areas hit by Hurricanes Helene and Milton are calling on tech companies to combat “disinformation, misinformation, conspiracy theories, and scams” related to the storms and recovery efforts.

North Carolina Reps. Deborah Ross, Kathy Castor, Wiley Nickel, along with Georgia Rep. Nikema Williams, sent a letter to the CEOs of seven social media companies Friday, pressing them to “combat these dangerous trends, which have exacerbated the challenges facing communities during this critical period of storm recovery and preparation,” the severity of which, the letter says, “is difficult to overstate.”

There are other things in that letter these totalitarian thugs sent out to Big Tech, but it all boils down to what they want Big Tech to do.

The lawmakers are asking the platforms to:

Wait for it. You won’t be either disappointed or surprised at what the first thing on their list was.

Increase the monitoring and rapid removal of misinformation and disinformation related to disaster recovery efforts.

Yep, the first priority for these petty little dictators was censorship of whatever they decided was “Misinformation.” The problem with what these clowns are calling “Misinformation,” is already proving out to be the truth. What they want done is removing anything that makes them look bad.

Enhance fact-checking partnerships with local agencies and disaster relief organizations.

Those “Fact checkers” have been getting fact checked themselves and found to be dead wrong and politically motivated. As for the “Disaster Relief Organizations,” (FEMA), there are any number of people in the disaster areas that are ready to string them up. Of course, that would mean they actually bothered to show up in the first place.

Strengthen algorithms to flag and prevent the spread of harmful conspiracy theories that target disaster victims.

More censorship and make it automatic so we don’t need to call you and complain when we find anything that makes us look bad.

Implement stronger safeguards against scams that prey on vulnerable individuals during disaster recovery.

In other words, block anyone we don’t like from saying anything we disagree with.

The letter concluded, “Again, we strongly encourage you to act quickly and decisively to address the clear dangers posed by the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and scams in the wake of these storms. Lives, livelihoods, and the integrity of our recovery efforts depend on it.”

I can’t say that a copy of this letter ended up at TwitterX, but I can hazard a guess as to what Elon Musk’s response was.

I know that all of these so called “Representatives” are up for reelection. I don’t know if they have any republicans opposing them or how they may be doing. I think that every single one of them should be pointedly asked why they want to suppress the First Amendment just because someone says something they disagree with or consider to be wrong.

Someone needs to explain to these tyrant wannabes that the best way to deal with so called misinformation is with more information. Of course, that that would require them to actually be correct and to post a rebuttal. TwitterX has a tool for just this called “Community Notes.” People can post corrections to the posts and people can then see and judge who may be right. Of course, since most of the time it’s the Democrats who are wrong, anything that goes against their narratives must be stopped lest they be seen for what they are.

Morons.
