Liberals and the First Amendment

Liberals, Progressives and Leftists, (but I repeat myself), are always screaming about “Their Rights!” but in their tiny little minds, those rights only apply to Liberals, Progressives and Leftists. (I know, I know, I’m repeating again) When it comes to anyone saying/doing something the Left opposes, then suppressing free speech is just fine.

The latest demonstration comes from Slate Magazine. They have an article by some chowder head named Eric Posner titled:

The World Doesn’t Love the First Amendment.

The universal response in the United States to the uproar over the anti-Muslim video is that the Muslim world will just have to get used to freedom of expression. President Obama said so himself in a speech at the United Nations today, which included both a strong defense of the First Amendment and (“in the alternative,” as lawyers say) and a plea that the United States is helpless anyway when it comes to controlling information.

I wrote about some of King Putt’s remarks yesterday.

Muslims need to grow a thick skin, the thinking goes, as believers in the West have done over the centuries. Perhaps they will even learn what it means to live in a free society, and adopt something like the First Amendment in their own countries.

So far, so good. Other than Der Fubar’s comments about being helpless to suppress free speech, nothing I disagree with so far. However, it’s early yet.

But there is another possible response. This is that Americans need to learn that the rest of the world—and not just Muslims—see no sense in the First Amendment. Even other Western nations take a more circumspect position on freedom of expression than we do, realizing that often free speech must yield to other values and the need for order. Our own history suggests that they might have a point.

And there we have your typical appeasers answer to anything. “We Surrender! Please don’t riot and murder me!!” Posner promptly doubles down on stupid by trying to make excuses and saying that the first amendment really doesn’t mean what it says.

Despite its 18^th-century constitutional provenance, the First Amendment did not play a significant role in U.S. law until the second half of the 20th century. The First Amendment did not protect anarchists, socialists, Communists, pacifists, and various other dissenters when the U.S. government cracked down on them, as it regularly did during times of war and stress.

And in case you didn’t notice moron, no one was bringing up First Amendment cases in court. You should study your history pinhead. This was when the ACLU got its start.

In the last few decades, conservatives have discovered in its uncompromising text— “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech”—support for their own causes. These include unregulated campaign speech, unregulated commercial speech, and limited government. Most of all, conservatives have invoked the First Amendment to oppose efforts to make everyone, in universities and elsewhere, speak “civilly” about women and minorities. I’m talking of course about the “political correctness” movement beginning in the 1980s, which often merged into attempts to enforce a leftist position on race relations and gender politics.

Now, what was the one big thing that happened in the 1980’s. Why that would be the election of Ronald Reagan. President Reagan was NOT a member of the “Establishment Liberal Wing” of the Republican party ((Generally referred to as the “Rockefeller Republicans”)). There wasn’t a dimes worth of difference between them and the Democrats in those days.

Meanwhile, some liberals began to have second thoughts. They supported enactment of hate-crime laws that raised criminal penalties for people who commit crimes against minorities because of racist or other invidious motives. They agreed that hate speech directed at women in the workplace could be the basis of sexual harassment claims against employers as well. However, the old First Amendment victories in the Supreme Court continued to play an important role in progressive mythology. For the left, the amendment today is like a dear old uncle who enacted heroic deeds in his youth but on occasion says embarrassing things about taboo subjects in his decline.

And that would coincide with the rise of the hardcore Progressive left in the 70’s. Not much difference between that bunch and your typical Communist, Marxist or any other totalitarian system.

So symbolic attachment to uneasy, historically contingent compromises, and a half-century of judicial decisions addressing domestic political dissent and countercultural pressures, prevent the U.S. government from restricting the distribution of a video that causes violence abroad and damages America’s reputation. And this is a video that, by the admission of all sides, has no value whatsoever.

I have an idea. I don’t like anything you say are write, How about preventing you from posting your views?

Now, how about a few little tidbits? First, that video has been out there since MAY. The “Rioting” started on September 11^th. What might be significant about that date? I know! That was when 3000 people were slaughtered by Muslims because we wouldn’t kowtow to their demands, like you seem to want to. Everything I’ve seen says that none of these scum even knew of the existence of the video until some utter fool in the announced it on Twitter.

The attack on the consulate in Benghazi was a straight out military assault with the sole goal of killing every American they could catch and destroying the place. Oh wait, That isn’t what your lord and master, “The One” announced, is it? He lied about what happened and is still trying to maintain that lie.

The left in this country has been trying to institute their version of socialism for decades. The only thing that has slowed them down was that document, the United States Constitution. The love it when it works for them, but will ignore it if it gets in their way.

These are the same sorts of people who gave rise to the Soviet Union, and killed something like 150 million people, and were to frightened to stand up to Hitler and the Nazi’s when it would have done some good. These people generally hate America and EVERYTHING it stands for. They are utterly blind to the evils in the world.

I did a quick search on Mr. Posner. He is a graduate of Yale and Harvard Law. To me, this explains everything. Yale and Harvard are home of some of the most virulent America hating bigots you will ever see. I also understand that Harvard doesn’t even teach the Constitution in any real way and hasn’t since before World War 2. (I may be incorrect about this)

The main reason we as a nation are in such trouble is directly do to morons like Posner who would rather surrender to the enemy rather than fight for truth, justice and the American Way. Liberals want to crush the United States and make us subservient to every tinpot third world tyrant out there. They see it as punishment for America’s greatness and success.

I have just one thing to say to people like Posner, Obama and all the other members of the Totalitarian, Progressive Left who want to tear up the Constitution.

Try it.

I will fight you with every means at my disposal. I will not be fighting alone. Ten’s of millions of others will stop you by any means necessary and that does include, God Forbid, pushing the Second Amendment reset button. (Another amendment the left despises. It is the one thing keeping them from tearing up that old document and creating their idea of Utopian America)

We aren’t at the point of pushing the Reset button yet. I hope we never reach that point. However, the way people like you and your Liberal pals keep insulting, pushing and threatening anyone who disagrees with you, you might wake up one morning to “Bad things” happening.

Voting out your chief stooge in November will go a long way to keeping the safety cap on the Reset button.

So people, what do you think? Do you agree with this pile of swine droppings that we should suppress the rights of people because they might offend the enemy? That would definitely include shutting me down. (And locking me up without trial)
