New York Slimes blames liberals for unlivable cities?

Good day all. Well, it seems that the end of days has arrived. The New York Slimes, formally the New York Times has posted an editorial blaming liberals for the disaster that many cities are now facing.

We’ve all seen the reports on how bad things are in cities like San Francisco, Seattle, Detroit and New York. They’ve become essentially unlivable. The one thing all these cities have in common, is they have be or are being run, into the ground, by progressive liberal politicians. Now, in an editorial in the New York Slimes, Farhad Manjoo confirms what we all knew to be true.

To live in California at this time is to experience every day the cryptic phrase that George W. Bush once used to describe the invasion of Iraq: “Catastrophic success.” The economy here is booming, but no one feels especially good about it. When the cost of living is taken into account, billionaire-brimming California ranks as the most poverty-stricken state, with a fifth of the population struggling to get by. Since 2010, migration out of California has surged.

And the reason for this state of affairs is?

The basic problem is the steady collapse of livability. Across my home state, traffic and transportation is a developing-world nightmare. Child care and education seem impossible for all but the wealthiest. The problems of affordable housing and homelessness have surpassed all superlatives — what was a crisis is now an emergency that feels like a dystopian showcase of American inequality.

Welcome to the People’s Soviet Socialist Republic of Kalifornistan. A state that, in the name of fairness and equality, has taken the richest state in the union and turned it into a complete Third World disaster area.

Just look at San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi’s city. One of every 11,600 residents is a billionaire, and the annual household income necessary to buy a median-priced home now tops $320,000. Yet the streets there are a plague of garbage and needles and feces, and every morning brings fresh horror stories from a “Black Mirror” hellscape: Homeless veterans are surviving on an economy of trash from billionaires’ mansions. Wealthy homeowners are crowdfunding a legal effort arguing that a proposed homeless shelter is an environmental hazard. A public-school teacher suffering from cancer is forced to pay for her own substitute.

San Francisco is suffering from a multitude of issues causing the homeless problems. One big one is the flat out refusal by the Moonbats to allow new housing to be built, especially if it might generate a profit for the building owners. Then we have the refusal to do anything about the hordes of mentally ill homeless, and the literal coddling of Illegal aliens and criminals by the ruling elite. The business about teachers having to pay for the substitute is something I heard about but didn’t look into. Perhaps later.

And there is no end in sight to such crushing success. At every level of government, our representatives, nearly all of them Democrats, prove inadequate and unresponsive to the challenges at hand.

It isn’t just incompetence, it’s also the blinding stupidity of Progressives. None of those in office have ever worked a real job, they think that, since they have doctorates in Social Justice, that they know how things should be run. When things don’t work out the way they believe they should, they blame everyone else and then double down on their idiocies.

Mr. Manjoo then goes on to speak about a bill that was designed to cut back the massive levels of regulations imposed by the elites in Sacramento. The bill was shelved, apparently due to some political games by the rulers in the legislature.

It was another chapter in a dismal saga of Nimbyist urban mismanagement that is crushing American cities. Not-in-my-backyardism is a bipartisan sentiment, but because the largest American cities are populated and run by Democrats — many in states under complete Democratic control — this sort of nakedly exclusionary urban restrictionism is a particular shame of the left.

I’m dealing with some of that in New Hampshire. There has been a plan to build a new Natural Gas pipeline that has run afoul of the NIMBY numbskulls in the state, including the town I grew up in. Thanks to these people, my heating bills are higher then they should be in the winter months. That same town also forced the shutdown of an outdoor gun range that had been there for 50+ years. Why? People bought land nearby, built houses and were upset with the noise on weekends. Hello? You knew they were there before you bought the property you morons!

Then there is the refusal on the part of wealthy progressives to live by the values they profess to support at the national level.

This surprises you? Why?

Creating dense, economically and socially diverse urban environments ought to be a paramount goal of Progressivism.

Actually, Humans really don’t care for the density levels that Progressives love to impose on people. If I could afford it, I would much prefer to own a home with several acres of land, similar to where I grew up. I don’t like cities very much.

Urban areas are the most environmentally friendly way we know of housing lots of people. We can’t solve the climate crisis without vastly improving public transportation and increasing urban density. More than that, metropolises are good for the psyche and the soul; density fosters tolerance, diversity, creativity and progress.

And Mr. Manjoo jumps the shark. My guess is he doesn’t actually live in the type of environment he would so happily impose on others. In order to get the Utopian dream he desires, people would be forced to give up most of the rights we have under the Constitution. I can tell you right now that density does NOT foster diversity. It never has. Humans are clannish and typically don’t trust outsiders. Shoving groups of people together against their will results in violence.

Yet where progressives argue for openness and inclusion as a cudgel against President Trump, they abandon it on Nob Hill and in Beverly Hills.

Of course they do you moron. For your average Progressive, it’s “Do as I say, not as I do, and keep those dirty little brown people and the other riff raff away from me.

This explains the opposition to SB 50, which aimed to address the housing shortage in a very straightforward way: by building more housing. The bill would have erased single-family zoning in populous areas near transit locations. Areas zoned for homes housing a handful of people could have been redeveloped to include duplexes and apartment buildings that housed hundreds.

I haven’t read the bill, but I suspect that people would have been told “We’re taking your home under Eminent Domain. This is what WE think it’s worth. Now get out!” If that wasn’t the intent, you can bet your last dollar, provided the Progressives haven’t confiscated it yet, that would have happened. It sounds to me that Manjoo is all on board with building ghettos and projects, all of which have failed. But you know, Progressives will say “It didn’t work last time because I wasn’t involved! I know how to make this work.”

If you want to see the end results of a city run for decades by Progressive Liberal Democrats, take a look at Detroit. For all intents and purposes, the city is dead. Something on the order of two thirds of the original population has abandoned the city. They’re actually pulling the city boundaries in, reducing the footprint, and the services offered to a smaller sector. There are abandoned buildings and neighborhoods everywhere and things are not getting better.

Now it’s Kalifornistan’s turn. The house that Silicon built is collapsing. Where the big tech companies had lines of potential employees waiting to work there, now they are finding it hard to get good people. Instead, these companies are now starting to expand in other states, mostly not run by Democrats. Kalifornistan was once known as California, the Golden State. Now it’s become a typical Soviet Workers Paradise. A giant upholstered outdoor toilet.
