Good day all. Time to take a breather from “All Twitter, All the Time” and take a look at other idiocies around the country. Speaking of idiots, the Seattle City Council has decided to cut 80 positions from their police force.
Seattle, like almost all the progressive run cities, is having a small problem with criminals basically looting, pillaging, raping and murdering their way across the city. The City Council has also been trying to make it a lot easier for their criminal class by preventing citizens from being able to have the means to defend themselves. Now they are continuing the process by gutting their already understaffed police department. Here are the details from 770 KTTH:
The Seattle City Council voted to permanently defund 80 police positions in a department that is dangerously understaffed. But they’ll tell you they fully funded the department
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) has under 900 officers, with over 140 separations this year so far. The new staffing goal from Mayor Bruce Harrell — downgraded from 1,500-1,600 officers — is now just 1,400. There are so few deployable officers that precincts operate below staffing minimums, usually asking non-patrol officers to fill in to respond to 911 calls.
When allowed to commit funds to future hires the SPD so desperately needs, the council opted to cut funding to the positions permanently. Yet councilmembers still claim to support the police and argue they’re not defunding.
The story goes into who voted to defund the police, and there were three people who voted against the cuts. Two actually support the police, Sara Nelson and Alex Pedersen. A third voted against the cuts, but not because the Communist, (and she is a communist), wants to restore police, but because she, Kshama Sawant, wants them abolished outright. (I gather from the story, if I am translating the apparent typo’s correctly, that she also wants massive tax increases) The other leftists on the council are denying that this is a move to Defund and Abolish the Seattle Police Department. Sarah Nelson was having none of this and said so.
“I believe that eliminating these positions does reinforce a ‘defund‘ narrative that got us here,” Nelson noted.
Lisa Herbold, who helped lead the charge to defund in 2020 and pushed for firing white officers because of their skin color, snapped at Sara Nelson. She claimed Nelson was effectively lying about what happened.
“This misinformation results in members of the public not understanding that the council has fully funded the SPD’s hiring budget, for now, the third year in a row,” Herbold said. “And I feel like this conversation that we’re having actually hurts retention and it hurts hiring because we’re not focusing on what’s in the budget that supports public safety. Instead, we’re talking about the very small reductions in the mayor’s proposed budget.
I did a quick lookup of Lisa Herbold. She’s exactly what I thought she was. She is your typical limousine liberal or Manhattan Marxist. She moved to Seattle to open a branch of ACORN, the now defunct criminal organization that offered to aid in smuggling in underage girls from Mexico and putting them to work in a brothel. (This was the story that made Project Veritas and James O’Keefe) After the collapse of ACORN, she went into politics and has helped destroy the city of Seattle.
The people and businesses of Seattle have had it with the out of control crime and have begun demanding that the Seattle Police department be restaffed to it’s full levels. The problem is, these very same people keep electing the idiots, moonbats and communists who are busily wrecking the police in the first place. I have no sympathy for those who won’t do the right thing and boot these liars from office. They are getting exactly what they wanted, good and hard.
